Moderator | Ok I like opals a lot, especially the black opals BUT I've always heard they were bad luck if worn by anyone that is not a Libra. Is that true Mach?
I hope not. For the last few years I've only worn moonstone and diamonds. A black opal might be a welcome change. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I hope not. For the last few years I've only worn moonstone and diamonds. A black opal might be a welcome change. I went looking ( as I do all the time on things ) found this While opals have always been an object of curiosity and mystery, the powers attributed to it have not always been positive. In the late 18th century, the opal was considered to bring bad luck to its possessor. The Spanish King Alfonso XII had given an opal ring to his wife who died shortly thereafter. The ring was passed on to family members and each person who wore it died mysteriously. Eventually, the king himself wore the ring and he too died unexpectedly. While historians will say that the deaths can be attributed to the cholera epidemic of the times, many have blamed the deaths on the opal.

what kind of healing powers does the stone possess? (other than what was mentioned) found this bit The Romans had been wearing opals for centuries and considered them a symbol of hope and purity. The gem was carried as a good luck charm or talisman. They believed opals instilled the gift of prophecies, warned of poison, brought good fortune, and protected against disease. Early Greeks believed they embodied the powers of foresight and prophecy. In the 7th Century it was believed that opals possessed magical properties. Early races credited Opals with magical qualities and traditionally, opal was said to aid its wearer in seeing limitless possibilities. It was believed to clarify by amplifying feelings, buried emotions and desires. The Romans had been wearing opals for centuries and considered them a symbol of hope and purity. Early Greeks believed they embodied the powers of foresight and prophecy. In the 7th Century it was believed that opals possessed magical properties. It is said that gazing into the depths of an opal will reduce stress and improve eyesight. A Chinese belief is that the wearer must be pure of heart in order to receive an opal as a gift; Asians also view opals as symbols of hope and loyalty. Opals have been used in magic potions as healing tonics or to stave off nightmares. Ritualistically, they have been used to enhance power and attract money. Spiritually, opals are used to help people, see within themselves as well as to aid in past life regression. This is said to be done by looking within the opal’s colors until the past can be seen. So powerfully connected to spirituality are opals, Australian, aboriginal, shamans even used them to conjure visions It is true that Opals will bring misfortune to those who attempt to use it’s power for evil or selfish purposes. It is the stone of love, but only to faithful lovers, it will bring misfortune to an unfaithful lover. If an opal is given as a sign of love or for luck, its breaking is regarded as a bad omen. Opal intensifies the wearer’s thoughts and actions, so if you tend to be anxious or nervous, then it will magnify these feelings; if you are focused, this trait will be magnified. Dreaming of opals denotes the coming of great possessions The opal is many things including the most powerful of healing stones, the stone of hope, and the stone of great achievement.

So don't be afraid to wear one if you already wear other stones. I can't wear any one stone 24/7... I find their effects too powerful, tell the truth.
