but if I toss hard enough I might knock myself out on my headboard

my mum swears that is what my dad had to do to her to impregnate her falloff TWICE!

a variation on the old "club her over the head" routine

Same problem here. I guess mine is mostly stress related, but it still sucks.

Sleeping pills don't seem to help much because they take too long to kick in, and the next morning they take too long to wear off.

Right now, I use foam earplugs and a sound machine (Homemedics Sound Spa). All I can end up hearing is the faint noise from the sound machine through the earplugs, and nothing else, so it helps me zone out and go to sleep.

Noise is a huge problem for me. Not that it's noisy here, I'm just sensitive.

I sometimes do the same as you, earplugs, and I turn on a fan. Even if there's no noise for that stuff to block, it puts my mind at ease.

I might have to look into the sound machine. Whatdoes it sound like?

It has like rain, thunder, jungle, waterfalls, stuff like that. JC Penneys got em for 20 bucks, or a pro version with a clock thats like 50 bucks. Sharper Image also sells some nice models for around 80 bucks.

can you get it in "ocean" with waves breaking on the shore? I would love to fall asleep to that sound - it would take me back to childhood summers mushy

I have a cd that has those sounds. But it's tracks of river, ocean, bird sounds, etc. But each track is only 7 minutes or so.

Not much point in environments that only last 7 minutes!
