Prayers needed...UPDATE ...over the years I've seen the impact org prayer has made and I guess it's my turn to ask...
Last night my sister and I had to call 911 for my mom...she has a chronic lung disease and couldn't even walk a few feet because she couldn't breathe. We go through this about once a year and always pray it's not pneumonia because each time she gets it, it causes further damage to her lungs. In the ER they said it wasn't pneumonia, but now the doctor is saying it might be...she does have some kind of lung infection, but they're not sure what yet. I'm just asking for a little prayer that things work out for the best...no pneumonia and no permanent damage. Thanks in advance on behalf of me and my family... UPDATE: Mom's coming home tomorrow! She's still having trouble walking without getting out of breath...but, she's recovering and getting stronger. We'll find out next week when she sees her regular pulmonary doctor if there is any long-term effect...but, I feel blessed. Thank you to ALL of you for your well-wishes, thoughts and prayers. It's made an impact and I'm grateful to all of you. [Edited 1/5/07 20:38pm]

My thoughts are with you, may she get well real soon....I know from experience that lung problems can seriously bring someone down. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Thank you, everyone
I just spoke to my mom on the phone and she said she's starting to feel better, but the pulmonary doctor does suspect pneumonia. Tomorrow they're giving her a CT scan of the lungs to see. The X-ray they took in the ER didn't show anything, but for some reason the doctor still thinks she has it. Personally, I think he's wrong...but, we'll see.

Our Fathers and Holy Mary's coming.
There's good broad spectrum antibiotics that treat pneumonia. She needs to be cultured and find the right one. If you live in cold weather, it exacerbates COPD. Worse comes to worse, there's steroids which really do reduce inflammation and swelling in lung tissue. She should have a Pulmonologist who specializes in treatment.

A CT scan in less than 5 min does detailed sections of the lung. You'll find out more. It does a head to toe angle of isolated segments of the chest. Xrays do anterior. posterior and lateral angles. If she's seeing a pulmonary specialist, keep in mind, he knows more about the lungs than an ER Doc. If he's wrong about the pneumonia at least he's ordering the right study to determine what it is.

That's what I'm worried about... But, I guess it all boils down to how she's feeling. They've got her on Levaquin (sp?) IV.
