Police: Hot Shell Casing Fell Down Woman's Shirt

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A little target practice was too hot for an Oklahoma woman to handle.

The woman accidentally shot herself on Wednesday, police said.

Police said Anna Herrera-Gomez was practicing with a 9 mm gun at the H&H Gun Range in Oklahoma City when a hot shell casing fell down the front of her shirt.


She jumped as the hot metal touched her skin and reached for her chest. Police said that's when she accidentally shot herself in the leg.

"Of course, we train for this, but unbeknownst to us, we had a gentlemen on the range who was a trained EMT. (He) took care of it immediately, and even though it was a shooting, it was actually very minimal," said H&H Gun Range owner Miles Hall.

Hall said the woman was embarrassed more than anything else.

Wow! I've had hot brass go down my shirt because I fire from my left side which is facing right hand shooters so I catch it all! I wear a turtleneck and a shirt buttoned to the top. Even with all that, the cleavage stills catchs that mess. She had to be a new shooter. I holster my shit quick when I have a problem. I have nightmares about shooting myself so I am extremely careful. Hell, I have stood still being burned by the brass until it was safe for me to move and get them out. This is like that DEA cop with the guns in the elementary school.
