CHICAGO -- Basketball star Michael Jordan and his wife Juanita divorced Friday, 17 years after the couple wed.

"Michael and Juanita Jordan mutually and amicably decided to end their 17 year marriage," the couple said in a statement issued through their lawyers. "A judgment for dissolution of their marriage was entered today. There will be no further statements."

Juanita Jordan previously filed for divorce in January 2002, but withdrew her petition a month later when the couple announced they were attempting a reconciliation.

During her last divorce petition, Jordan said attempts to reconcile their marriage had failed and future ones "would be impractical and not in the best interests of the family."

Michael and Juanita Jordan met at a Chicago restaurant during his second season with the Chicago Bulls and were married Sept. 2, 1989, in Las Vegas. They have three children: Jeffrey, Marcus and Jasmine.

In the last few weeks there were several entertainment and news Web sites claiming the divorce was a done deal, but Friday's news was the first official word.


Terms of the divorce are not yet known.

Michael Jordan was in the news earlier this year, after Karla Knafel claimed he promised her $5 million to remain silent about her pregnancy and to not take a paternity test.

DNA tests later proved Jordan was not the child's father, and in July, a judge ordered he did not owe Knafel the money.

Last week, Jordan was seen at the Loyola vs. New Trier basketball game, watching his son play.

Michael Jordan, 43, lives in Highland Park, Ill. He is a part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats basketball team and is a five-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

He led the Bulls to six championships.

I have yet to see a chubby Prince ....in fact, I´m quite surprised and amazed that he´s never looked fat, out of shape or plain bad in any way to this day. He´s probably the only celebrity who´s never let himself go, even under the worst circumstances.He deserves respect for that.
