You answered your own question - Ratner's a hack, the movie was poorly written and too many liberties with the characters.

Yes exactly...see marvel is going through a phase now where to make the stories "seem" more important than they really are they are killing B-list characters and changing the personality of A-list characters. By the way I read the new planet Hulk...I cannot say this enough it is one of the best saga's I have read from Marvel in like 10 years...it is ridiculously good. I suggest you grab it Anx clever clever quotation - attention getting quote - sad yet witty remark - look at me! Joss Whedon and Peter David know how to write. they need to choose ONE x-men title and just tone the shit down a bit. i feel like the whole franchise is lost up its own ass. character development has really gone to shit, and the new characters that constantly get introduced are pretty freakin' lame anymore. the team combos chosen for each title aren't even that interesting, with the exception of the whedon title, which i'm sure was a prerequisite of him writing an x-men book. i wrote off all the x-men titles at least a couple of years ago, with an OCCASIONAL peek at astonishing x-men. i think these days, if i need a fix, i'll go back to my beloved claremont/paul smith/john romita, jr. era issues.

Old Claremont yes...new Claremont...good gawd...dude has fallen off... i totally agree. i think character development has become a major no-no in comics now. i think it's all about jerking off readers with short-term attention spans for a couple dozen pages or so. i can't think of an issue of a comic book from the last decade that i felt was truly monumental or even memorable to me.

I still say X-Factor is a very good read. It's all C-list X-men that haven't been overused and messed with like the others. I always felt Peter David was the Joss Whedon of comics before Joss started writing comics himself. Get one of the new X-Factor TPB and read it and if you don't like it, I will honestly pay you back the money you spent and then some. I feel that strongly about it. grammar edit [Edited 1/5/07 10:28am]

Peter David's run on The Hulk was the one of best in comics history. I compare it to Byrne's FF, McFarlane's Spider-man and Walt Simonson's Thor. ...and yes, "Planet Hulk" kicks ass!

Joe Fixit was my favorite version of the Hulk. I have every issue too. It doesn't get any better than issue# 341 - Wolverine & the grey Hulk tearing each other apart.

I'll buy almost any comic Peter David writes (I read a few issues of Spyboy, but bypassed it for the most part). His Supergirl series was very underrated. And the new X-Factor is right up there with his best stuff. Who would have thought I would care about a lame-ass character like Rictor?
