I think Civil War is alright. Not great, but alright. I am curious to see how it will all be resolved in the final issue. The bad thing about Civil War is that it has been troubled by lateness. confused

I can't stand CW...they essentially have taken characters who have behaved a certain way for 30 or 40 some years, and have them doing crap that completely goes against who they are as characters. Thor clone? Like Reed and Hank would do that...Iron Man acting more like Lex Luthor than Tony Stark...and I see little difference between the Ultimate Captain America and the regular marvel U Captain America...

This all my opinion mind you but I think it's hack writing...

Well, now that you mention it, I see your point. I think you're right in your criticism. Civil War sucks. sad

But I thought the Fantastic Four movie was good. I even bought it on DVD so I could watch it again. biggrin

How do you do the Silver Surfer without Galactus?

Very easily done...
The Silver Surfer is the herald of Galactus. He could just be here to let them know that Galactus is coming... He fights with the FF... Then realizes that the Earth is worth saving... Which sets up FF #3 as the FF & the Silver Surfer team up against Galactus

I guess that could work if you saved Galactus for part 3, but he still would have to be mentioned in some way. Did anyone read the Ultimate Galactus/Silver Surfer story in Ultimate Extinction? Interesting reimagining of the characters.

Tell me about it. You have to have the right people doing these kinds of films, or they'll come out like sh!t. Sam Raimi, Chris Nolan, Joss Whedon - these cats "get it".

For me, there's only one actor who could play Victor Von Doom - Jeremy Irons.

i agree - i was excited about civil war at first, because the art was so great and the dialog seemed to be at least fairly intelligent, as marvel comics go. but it just seems like the whole concept has gone from an okay premise to a big, unlikely mess and i'm tired of seeing all the tie-ins and stupid loser spin-off series they're trying to pull off with it. jerkoff

a question - why do so many people hate x-men 3? i'm no brett ratner fan, but i was pretty okay with the movie. sure, it took TONS of liberties with the comic book continuity, but i felt like it did so for the sake of showing the extent of dark phoenix's character. i kinda thought it was a great piece of unintentional feminist filmmaking...i've never seen a female anti-hero in a film before who was such a force of arbitrary malevolence, like a force of nature who was beyond any kind of moral judgment. i thought that aspect of the movie was really well done, even though they were a little wimpy about how most of the characters were knocked off (cuz ya never know when they might be able to wrangle another sequel, naturally).

oh, but as far as comic book geek stuff goes - my favorites are john byrne's run on alpha flight and FF (though i went back and read them last summer and those issues really don't age well, do they?) and the bill sienkiewicz issues of new mutants and elektra: assassin (which i think hold up beautifully).

my favorite comic writing would be 'the watchmen' (duh) and 'transmetropolitan', which is probably my favorite comic book series ever.

i have to say, i picked up the latest issue of 'the new avengers' and was really impressed with the art and story...it almost read like a piece of short fiction more than a comic book, and the superheroes had normal-people bodies instead of pumped-up muscle/boobie bodies - though they still made hawkeye look HOTT. drool i didn't catch who worked on that issue, but if they're staying on for a while, i'll have to keep reading. nod

Age well? I thought they were incredibly ground-breaking. Byrne ticked a lot of people off with all the dynamic changes he made to the characters (though it didn't translate as well to Alpha, where the characters weren't established).

Also, I respected Byrne's annoyance at having to do cross-overs and tie-ins. He was adept at telling a full story in one month as well as creating elaborate, lengthy plot lines. Secret Wars came along and sounded the death nell on the hermetic comic book...

So what are they calling this 'Age' of comics, the eighties, that they continue to borrow characters & movie storylines from? Please don't tell me the adamtium age...

I used to make it my personal mission to see every marvel movie, tv show, tv special and cartoon. I have seen the godawful but hillarous Fantastic 4 movie from 94 to the also hillarious Nick Fury tv movie with Hasselhoff as Fury neutral. I have seen Electra...(which is bad on 1 level) I have seen the old Spiderman live action TV movies (where his hands can't bend from the webshooters and he shoots giant nets instead of webbing... neutral )I have seen the Dr Strange movie for godsake! (not many can say that its so obscure its not even funny).

These are the movies I have NOT seen....the newest Punisher, FF, and X-men 3. The reason I have broken this streak is A. Im tired of Marvel's pissing on the hardcore fans that made them because they want the mainstream limelight. and 2 these 3 movies im afraid would scar my very soul if I saw them. They just looked terrible...Even more so that Electra, Daredevil, and god help me even Hulk. At least I could laugh at Hulk...there is nothing funny about those 3 movies...just the sad sound of a cash register going "cha ching" neutral

i TOTALLY remember the dr. strange movie...it was a TV movie on CBS, right? i saw it when i was a kid, though i couldn't recall much about it to save my life.

as for x-men 3, i think what is lost from faithfulness to the comic history is gained back in the over-the-top characterization of phoenix. i was totally expecting crap. i was expecting superman 3 or 4. but now i'm debating if i want to break down and buy a copy (i don't own the other two). it's a totally perfect movie to see if you've just broken up with someone. lol

i DO remember john byrne creating other "flight" teams, which i think were briefly introduced in alpha flight #1 (the original run, that is)...i think one of the teams went evil, if i remember correctly. though with the civil war tie-in crap, it sounds like they're not exactly banking on making a bridge in continuity here. lol

The twins are definitely still alive. They recently attacked the X-Men under the thrall of some new evil team.
