I'm finally gonna allow myself one for the bedroom...

Played around w/ the Bose yesterday, shit sounds GREAT! But $299??? hmm

Does anyone have a sound dock for their IPod? If so, which ones do you like?

I want it to sound good but I'm gonna be mad if I have to pay $300 for it hrmph

I would suggest not getting a sound dock system, but instead buy the Tivoli Audio PAL and a cable with a 1/8th headphone jack at both ends to connect it to the ipod.

These things sound really great, and they have an internal rechargeable lithium battery, so they are very portable if you want to take it with you. They also come in several colors (the white one is called the iPAL. all other colors are called the PAL.)

I love mine. Don't be put off by the single speaker. It has a big full sound with great bass and most two speaker docks are too small to have stereo separation anyway. I was concerned about the single speaker, but I am a true believer now. This thing sounds great. The PAL's radio is exceptional as well.

They cost $129.

Here are some reviews:

cool thumbs up! After buying the PAL, I bought the Tivoli Model 3 clock radio. I love it too.

I'm considering the iPod Hi-Fi, but I read differing reviews on wether it beats the BOSE, ties it, or is less impressive.

I would like a stereo that sounds great, and 300 doesn't seem like too much considering how outrageous systems can actually run sometimes.

Ultimately, I need the system to be ridiculously easy to use, or else I'll bore of it. shrug

1) They play .mp3 (unprotected and protected if imported), AAC, m4p
2) Songs bought from itunes can ONLY be played on iPods (video, nano, shuffle, etc.)
3) You can burn any songs bought from iTunes to CD, as long as you create a playlist to burn them from. Very easy.

No. lol

You have to burn them to CD, then rip that to mp3.
Protected files won't let you convert them form one format to another.

I love my iPod, but I dont' buy most of my albums from iTunes. I used to use a Russian site, but VISA wont' approve that anymore.

iPod is sold as more than an mp3 player. They sell you an "Experience" via design and integration with iTunes, etc.

If that doesn't matter to you at all, the Creative Zen Player is excellent. It plays all the standard formats, and the microsoft .wma format.

The most annoying thing is that if I were to shell out that kind of $ they'd just find a way to integrate it into something cool next year & then I'm stuck w/ some expensive shit pout

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago discussing customer complaints about the Apple ipod. It's still the best ipod to buy, according to the columnist as compared to other similar devices. Apple is pretty good at replacing your ipod if there's a problem.
I have 600 songs in my itunes and haven't even begun to transfer my large cd collection into it. Major task. I spent hours Christmas night setting up more playlists and got a boombox for xmas to accommodate an ipod.

I read that, too. Apparently they have a short life span--battery & hard drive. Also, with like 70 million sold, odds are that millions will fail. They're fragile tiny computers.

Mine is about 3 or 4 years old now, and basically works fine, but i don't take it everywhere with me. I listen mostly in bed.
