it didn't really work as a musical for me, but jennifer hudson was AWESOME! and eddie was better than he has been in a looooong time, and suprisingly moving on the dramatic side. i also loved the third girl, whose story line and acting really moved me in a way i did not see coming.

i kept thinking the performances are better than the movie itself though.

at the end of the day....it was all about the performances....and they were good nod

I truly hope Jennifer gets the love for this she really deserves and doesn't get swallowed up in the love ppl have for bouncy albeit she did pretty good. I just think that Jennifer should have been nominated for best actress and beyonce for supporting but what do I know.

beyonce was good, honestly, better than i thought she was going to be. but hudson... wow, hudson was incredible.

although she is pretty mush the lead in the film, they would be a lot smarter to campaign for a supporting actress nomination for jennifer hudson, where she is much more likely to win. if nominated for lead actress, she will almost certainly lose to helen mirren, who pretty much has the win secured for her brilliant performance in "the queen"

i would love to see eddie getnominated for his performance too.

I loved the movie. Some of the parts were a little too choppy. I don't think it was editing, it's probably just the fact that as a musical they had to take some liberties to make it work.

Jennifer Hudson was amazing. Beyonce was awesome too. I think they all did a great job.

Didn't realize this topic was started already; but, Oh - - go see this movie!

Saw it yesterday; it was incredible. They will deserve any award they win for this. Esp. Jennifer Hudson -- what a voice! eek Eddie was cool, too.

I don't think I've been to a film where the audience applauded not only both of a star's solos, but again when her credit rolled up at the end of the show.

It was like being at the Broadway show. smile

Ten thumbs up!

Edited for this YouTube link to the 1982 Tony Award clip of the great Jennifer Holliday's performance -- and a skinny Loretta Devine (who's also in the movie wink )

i saw it on christmas day and i enjoyed it immensely! it brought back nice memories from when i saw the original play with jennifer holliday and n'em lol

that jennifer hudson did a wonderful job-i liked how she didnt sing THEE song exactly word for word-she put her own lil spin/twist on it towards the end and it worked for her imo cool

eddie did a great job as well but to me-every scene he was in turned instantly into a comedic one-whether it wuz s'pposed to be or not
due to the content i suggest you like this...

I finally saw DREAMGIRLS today and it was incredible! It totally lives up to all of the hype and Jennifer Hudson is AMAZING!! I cannot believe that this is her very first role. I totally believed her character. There were many scenes in the film where the audience applauded the performances and most of the audience stayed to see the credits roll. This is a MUST SEE film! GO SEE THIS MOVIE NOW!

Wow, eddie is good in something? How long has it been since he was good in anything LOL. Thats good to hear.

Eddie never makes a stretches in the roles he chooses, maybe he doesn't have the skillz?

Luved the movie and luved Eddie, but every time he started singing I kept thinking about his jerri curl character in Coming to America....."sexy chocolate" (eddie stomps his foot and throws down the mike). I was chuckling every time he sang , even though it wasn't supposed to be funny. lol

like i said in another thread on another fourm i'm glad Tina Knowles was kept away from the costumes.

I thought the real stars were Eddie and Jennifer. I was kinda hoping for a few more big production numbers.
