My parents gave me a sewing machine!

And a cute purple psychedelic looking sewing basket with needles and a bunch of thread and pins and pin cushions and tracing paper and bascially all I need to start sewing. It's probably the best Xmas gift I've received in years. I'm really, really excited to start sewing. I'm a little scared, as I'm quite out of practice, but I plan to buy some cheap scraps of material to play with for a while before I try to do anything fancy.

I can even hem my own pants now!

From my brother and his wife I received a generous target gift card and a Neil Diamond 2-CD collection. It's sort of a joke between us, but he and his wife and my parents all went to see him in concert together and didn't bother to invite me. I was pissed. I would have loved to see Neil Diamond and who the hell else would go see him with me? They thought I wouldn't be interested.

And 2 weeks ago at endo's Xmas party I went home with a Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault gift pack. A friend of mine works for them and she packed up a mug, a pen, some fliers, one of those cheesy rubber braclets (it says ;STOP RAPE!) and a gift card for a local feminist-owned adult toy store (the Smitten Kitten). It was a clever gift.

My family agreed to take a little trip to the beach together later in the year rather than exchange gifts, but my mom couldn't resist filling stockings with doodads for us.

I got some dark chocolate, Burts Bees honey lip balm and lemon cuticle cream, a movie pass, a $10 Kroger gift card, a toothbrush and dental floss (my girlfriend and I were both strangely delighted to get toothbrushes ), and fab striped chenille socks.

It was really fun to take the focus off of a huge pile of stuff and just exchange little useful things and enjoy everybody.

The best thing I got for Christmas was to see my family welcome my sweetie with open arms and get to know her better, and vice versa. It was a big lovefest.
