I bought both of these books last week, and boy howdy are they a handful.

Amy Sedaris's book is great, because it's part humor and part cookbook/household tips. The recipes don't look like a put-on or a joke, though on her list of what to serve a date who comes over for dinner, she does include "pussy" on the list.

Meanwhile, Courtney Love has bared her ass - literally! - for the publication of her memoirs, and the result is essentially a bunch of soggy spiral notebook pages color scanned into a fancy book. It's quite artfully done, and there are some gorgeous photos of Kurt and Frances. Sadly, the only pics of Courtney we get (other than some fun childhood/teen pics) are of the Versace stripe - no pictures of drunken rampages or drug fueled grimacing. And when is she ever gonna talk about her appearance as a "goth poetess" on Andy Warhol's MTV show in the '80s, back when she was a chunky kid and looked like a deranged Tina Yothers?

C.Lo may never come back to the five and dime (as if she'd ever been), but I love the idea of these two oversized books occupying prime coffee table space over the holidays.

I thought of you today though because I was watching "The Grunge Years" on MTV2 today, and a Hole video came on. I didn't even change the channel either.
