"Speak for Yourself" is awesome. I recently saw her in Atlanta with Kid Beyond, the beatbox guy. Really, one of the best times at a concert I've ever had. He beatboxed all the percusion for her songs. Check out a clip of "Headlock" here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...xNBg0sqJDU

It's so weird how we can't handle the sight of actual bodies because all we see are idealized ones. Our culture is bizarre.

That is NOT an actual body. Unless he's a manatee.

Discerning between attractive and repulsive isn't a mark of our culture. It's natural. Animals do it, too.

I've heard that Kid Beyond character, he's alright, but not in the same class as say, Scratch from the Roots. But still, he's alright, his album is kinda cool.

Well, I do think it's unfortunate, but it isn't weird in the least. It's common for all cultures to have their standard deviations for weight, complexion, tooth color, etc and when outside of that "zone", of course folks are going to go hmm confuse or ill

But why is his penis inverted? That's the most disturbing thing there.

Sure, but I think there's an element here of westerners only seeing naked humans who are attractive. Which is quite bizzare, if you think about it. Our hang-ups about nakedness in general, but the way that we are sort of brainwashed to be not only NOT attracted, but sort of horrified. . . I don't think that's "natural".

Humans aren't the only ones. Many kinds of primates especially (but not limited to) will actually attack or kill another of their kind who is unattractive...say scarred or something. Admittedly, it would be wrong to not be this man's friend or beat him up or something...but since I don't know him, I can say
ill

We're not brainwashed into being horrified by it. You should see the looks that Asians give obese folks. My mom and aunt use to make the ugliest faces when we went on vacation and encountered obese folks. And the fat kids in school were being ruthlessly teased by the time we were in 2nd and 3rd grade.

I think the opposite is true. I think we have to be tought not to be horrified by it. It's kind of like kids staring at folks with disabilities or missing limbs, etc.--they ask and stare and we have to teach them that there is nothing wrong with it. However, only a fractionally small percentage of grownups will actually tell their kids that there is nothing wrong with being obese.

I couldn't have cared less about hearing a beatbox guy before that show, but he did a pretty amazing set before Imogen Heap's performance. And it was unbelievable how he matched all the percussive arrangements from her album when he joined her on stage. You'd never had known there was no drummer.

Great, great show.
