Hi, I am kinda new to this site, I don't post much, i sit back and observe mostly. I joined the site mainly to get credible news about Prince and join in the discussions. (I've been warned about the false news and fake tracklists) What I've seen on this site is heavy criticism about Prince..i'm not saying that criticism is a bad thing, but it just seems like this is the overall tone on this site. I am baffled that most people on here is "fans" due to the heavy criticism. I am a newbie "fan" or "fam" and I don't know much about Prince personal life, or his music club..i haven't been to any of his concerts. I've heard that Prince was arrogant, i'm not sure if that is true or not...I've read posts about his bad business practices, and his arrogant ways towards his fans. I don't know much about his practices, I only listen to his music and I realy enjoy it. Let me on this: What has Prince done to his fans to make them so critical about him?

as far as criticism of prince, like the Radiohead song goes, "you do it to yourself...YOU DO"

does it not say something that we're still fans or on this site, even though we're highly critical of Prince?

i'm sure it does say something. good. or bad. i cannot say.


but I'd rather be a fan that can see (and sometimes revel in) his flaws than one of the "he's great, he can do no wrong" types.

i would never say another person is flawed...i just think he has mis-managed his fan club...

on the flipside, i have to admit that he really does try...but, as any true gemini (myself included)..he comes off rather two-faced...he hates contracts but then puts his fans in a one year contract...he wants the music to be free yet he charges massive amounts of monies for concerts...he preaches way to much and instead of asking for discussion on issues (expecially religion), he preaches it..and thats an instant recipe for alienation...

thsat all i can think of right now...im sure others could speak much better then i on this issue...

Ok, so he releases his music on his club website for diehard fans. Diehard fans isn't the only people that wanna hear his music, i know tons of casual fans that thinks Prince quit making music...they have no idea that he is releasing music..most of the casual fans i know don't have internet access and therefore they have no idea what he is up to. His diehard fans have internet access...casual fans of Prince FAR outnumber the diehards, and the casual fan have no idea whatsoever about Prince new music these days. I think he should release his music commercially, becuase there are a lot of people that is still interested in him. I've heard fans on the site state that Prince is "dead" or he is "forgotten"..that is most definitely not true...people think that he simply quit making music. I personally know many fans that don't have internet access, and they don't know that he still makes music. I was one of them...i thought that emancipation was his last album until i got internet access. Thats why i say that he should release his music commercially, and that's the only criticism I have about Prince.

The concert tickets, yeah that is too high for most folks. He's just another in a long line of recording artists doing it.

In spite of all that, as Aaron says, most of us are still into his music. So that's gotta say something.

I remeber posting about how if people continue nastiness that new fans might actually be turned off to Prince.

It was a few months ago when the org was getting ridiculous, you know lots of off topic discussions, ramblings, nastiness in general, religious craziness, etc.

Now it's tapered back to a decent discussion board with great Prince tipics, some a little off but nothing as bad as before.

Anyway, I don't think it's the best time to discuss this because, Prince is sueing a fan. Things are getting a little tense.

Here is a hugely summarized summary (?):

1) many people feel that for $100 the material we have gotten so far is lame (One Nite Alone) some people, like myself, enjoy it, others call it more meaningless fluff

2) apparently some of the members tickets 4 the European tour have "sold out" The idea is that members tickets should not become "sold out" They should have enough 4 however many members r going, even if there r many.

3) Prince charged a LOT 4 the ONA tickets. The Celebration was a much better deal but many people can't afford 2 go 2 MPLS! (me)

4) Prince has been sending us silly emales via NPGMC about "Satan's claws" and about how bad bootleggers r. He has crossed the line of being a supplier and has instead become a preacher.

5) Prince has been targeting small fansites and shutting them down over copyright laws and such. People wonder y he doesnt go after larger bootleg companies. He HAS 2 know about them.

Is this a pretty accurate list, guys?


I wish I could find the Satan's claws thread, but I think that was on the old org.
