My girlfriend and I have been talking about how we'd like to do more stuff together besides having meals and sex.

The thing is, we're both such loners normally that we don't have a lot of things that we normally like to do that can involve another person. Like, for example, she's not going to get an org account and start mixing it up with you fuckers.

We both like to do some outdoorsy stuff, but. . .she's a serious athlete. I like to go on day hikes. I do not like to do 14-mile, 8k-foot-gain mountain scrambles!

We'd like to do more symphony/ballet/theater kinds of stuff, but neither of us has money to do that kind of thing very often.


What do people DO together?

My dad and my stepmom entertain together and go to other people's dinner parties together

They do church together and they take turns mowing the lawn

My mom and her partner take care of their pets together and visit their friends together. Sometimes they travel together, too That's about it, though.

I guess they all live together and that's enough at this point in their relationships, my dad and stepmom have been together for 14 years and my mom and her partner have been together for 17 years.

The big problem with this is not usually that people can't agree on something to do together, but rather to come up with anything that they can do. It's like they have no ideas at all. And then they have the nerve to turn down the other person's occasional suggestion even when they themselves have nothing to offer. It's better to try something you might not initially jump on because it's new or strange to you than to revel in boredom, right? At least that's what you would think. But I've lost count of the times I've suggested new things and gotten the thumbs down.

i'm always the one suggesting (when i'm with a guy) to do this or do that in an event to not keep doing the same things over and over again. it's gets pointless after a while. but the dummies i somehow end up with shoot me down like my ideas are "corny" but they offered absolutely nothing! and as i stated before i guess this is why i'm with no one at the moment, so i can do what i want on my terms and not worry about some loser bitch about it.

You're also pretty lucky to enoy doing things on your own though. I definitely have a few things that I even prefer to do alone, but most things become so much more fun with another person. That's why I keep trying to get them to come along and enjoy it. And they do almost always enjoy it the few times that they do come along! But then the next time it's the same story all over again, no matter how much I remind them of how reluctant they were before and how great it turned out.

Oh Charlotte, I know it's easy for me to say being childless and all, but I'm sure you can do things anyway. Like I've said so many times, try to find a local teenager who could be an inexpensive but responsible babysitter. There's always at least one in every neighbourhood. Plus there are so many things that you can do with the kids. I know it's a lot of hassle, but I remember my mom used to take us along for all kinds of things and we all really enjoyed it.
