People have stripped a lot of weight off quickly w/Atkins, but they tend to plateau and it's a difficult diet to maintain (not that you'd want to; studies have shown it encourages heart disease). Best way to lose weight is still what your mother told you: everything in moderation and exercise. one of my uncles thought this was the greatest miracle diet ever. So him and his girlfriend that I nicknamed 'Moutainwater' went on this diet. Eating nothing but red meat. Months later my uncle had had several heart attacks and all other kinds of severe heart problems and surgeries.

Months later my uncle had had several heart attacks and all other kinds of severe heart problems and surgeries. seems like a pretty obvious fate to me, in all due respect. even though i'm totally mr. anti-meat, i can understand people who wish to remain omnivorous as long as they keep their meat intake in proportion. this whole atkins diet thing just seems like a recipe for leaden arteries and heart problems. the person i'm trying to intervene on has lost 51 pounds so far - yeah, quick plateau...but like everyone else has been saying, i just don't see her maintaining this diet to the letter, and when she falls off the wagon, what's going to happen?

The best "diet" anyone can follow is the one set up for diabetics which is all about portion control and foods balancing eachother. When my sister was diagnosed with diabetis when she was 7 my mom & step-dad followed her diet plan also. They at first weighed and measured EVERYTHING, but with time could just eyeball it. My step-dad lost a ton of weight and got lots healthier
So if she has to have the word diet in it to be happy check into some books on the diabetic diet

I thought cheese was ok for atkins. I don't know. And I used to think that my satan was a PE teacher forcing me to play volleyball, but no, you're right. Morrissey would be involved. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

ok, except to say i just realized how ironic it would be if a satan made out of meat forced me to listen to morrissey. ha ha. !!!!! Seriously though. I quit drinking beer every nite, in like Mid November. And I went down from a 4 to a 2. Well plus, I'm like addicted to pilates now. But I seriously think the fact that I drink less did wonders for my abs.

Cuz like, well, it's not like I thought I was skinny or anything, but I considered myself on the thinner side. And I used to credit it to alcohol. I would be like, well yeah, I look like this cuz I drink all day. But now, I can see that, it was actually making me all puffy and stuff.

atkins is fine if she's also active and alternates between meats and tofu for the protien. too much of anything is going to be bad, including healthy meats. i've used the atkins method but substituted tofu in place of the fatty stuff. i don't believe eating fatty foods can ever be a good thing.

oh, and tell her to get a series of colonics. she'll be amazed at how much better she feels (energy and immune systems are boosted) and the weight she'l lose (anywhere from 5-40 pounds).

That's an interesting approach. Can U give some examples of what U subsitute with tofu? Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

That's an interesting approach. Can U give some examples of what U subsitute with tofu? well, i eat red meats, fish, and chicken when i'm home but i buy organic meats fresh from a butcher and i have the fat trimmed best as possible. if i couldn't get fresh organic meats i would not eat meat. but i digress... i didn't substitute all the time but if i felt i was eating to much of any certain group, i would just saute or bake some tofu with any given recipe and make ther dish with the tofu instead of the meat. as for the fats that atkins was so fond of, they were just avoided altogether. no bacon, no egg yolks, no butter...instead i would use margarine, turkey bacon or tempeh or veggie strips, egg whites. you know, just smarter options. i'd avoid the carbs and the fats and, because i was active i burnt the calories easily.
