What is it with people and their kids lately everwhere I look there is idiot child doing some annoying idiotic thing. It use to be children were seen and not heard, now everything is "what about the children" "no child left behind" its ridiculous. I go to a nice resturant and some kid is making so much noise I can't talk to my date. I go to a movie (and I don't see any PG stuff) and some kid is so loud I can't hear the film. I'm on a plane child and if it is not next to me its in the seat ahead of me with its head turned backwards like Regan in the Exorcist stairing at me. I have a joke with my friends that I could go to a topless bar and there would a child sitting behind me.

I will say this.....Being a mother of 4 beautifuls boys, I do understand where you are coming from. Children do NOT belong in theaters where rated R movies are shown(get a fucking babysitter or don't go) Same with some restuarants. Granted I did take my children to nicer restuarants but when they acted up , the check was paid and we left. It taught them that their bad behavior would not be tolerated and if they wanted to go back they had to behave. Even in the grocery store. Now I love kids, but parents shouldn't let their own children run them and act like brats in public. But that is my opinion thumbs up!

Joke or not, why not take the topic at least seriously?

There actually are people who honestly hate kids and we are discussing that.

I personally find that people who "hate" kids and/or animals are fucking weirdos in general.

This is exactly the mentality I was talking about. Not everyone likes the same kinds of music or art or lifestyles; so why is it weird for people to dislike kids but not weird that some people don't like country music? I don't expect everyone to love contemporary art, but I don't consider those who hate it "weird".

I can, however, understand how some children can work people's last nerves...but if kids are being little terrors, you should "hate" the parents because it's their fault. It would be a little less weird to say "I hate parents that raise their children to be little jerks".

We all know the kids that are raised to be little jerks tend to grow up to be adult jerks...and often they end up being the ones that "hate" kids. lol

But often times the parents raising "little jerks" don't realize their kids are "little jerks." They find the behavior cute or amusing...

I just don't like being around kids--well behaved ones are better than poorly behaved ones, but given the choice I prefer to just avoid them all together; just like I prefer to avoid ultra conservatives, religious zealots, crackheads, etc. shrug

My personal experience is that people who so called "hate" kids are straight up weirdos. If that offends you, that probably says more about what you think of yourself than it does about my mentality.

It's one thing to not want them, or even enjoy being around them...but it's another to have some great proclamation that they "hate kids".

I never said I was offended...I just pointed out that your response supported my original post about how parents often don't understand why/how those who aren't parents don't like being around children.

Your assumption that I was offended says just as much about your opinion of yourself as you think my retort says about mine. Everyone's posts here express their opinions so that's not really some earth shattering proclamation.

And as I put in my second post, I'm not surprised that this thread is slipping towards becoming very ugly and judgemental.

I said if one is offended, not that I assumed that you were.

I should remember that saying "you" and meaning people in general is not a good idea because people always assume I am talking specifically about them. Makes sense. I should always use "one", I guess.

The people who are parents are not saying that they don't understand, in fact, pretty much everyone said that they can totally sympathize and dislike being around badly behaved children as well - because so far that's what everyone is complaining about...badly behaved kids.

I don't see this turning ugly at all, actually, for the most part it's very light and an interesting read.

I still stand by what I said in my first post. The people I personally know that claim to "hate" kids and/or animals have been really, really odd people in general.

I think the thing to remember for anybody reading this is the word "odd" is a relative term what is odd JustErin may not be odd to DevotedPuppy and viceversa.

Chances are JustErin would more than likely find me odd, I do have strange traits self admitedly, however I'm not the traditional "normal" person so I tend to find neo conservatives odd, I find people who get brainwashed by religion odd, I find people who believe you marry one person for the rest of your life odd, and people who want children odd. Its a perspective thing i don't think there is any reason to be offended by JustErin just because "she" ( I hope your female with that assuption) disagrees with me, i would only be offended if she directed offensive remarks toward me.

Right, there are lots of things about me that some people consider to be "odd".

But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what others think of you.

People pass judgement on me all the time and I am totally fine with that. It only really has a effect on me if it's someone who is close to me...and even then, chances are I am probably not going to be able to change their mind, so I just keep living my life the way I choose to.

Judge away, I say. It's normal and we all do it.

Odd: out of the way; queer or eccentric; strange.( my webster's is pretty old)

Everyone has their own experiences. To hate children, people, (who stay married to one person?) animals, etc. there must be some reason, bad past experience, to feel that way. The important point is: how does it affect you?
With unruly children in a public place, sure...but a married couple? How does that affect you??
Hate gets to be a strong word.

Lets see i'll tell you how this effects me, i don't go to movies at a theatre anymore its not just peoples kids however that has been the problem most of the time. Its people are inconsiderate in general talking on their cell phones during a movie, talking its ridiculous.

I tend to go out to dinner very late like 10pm or 11pm at night to avoid children, I use to sit in smoking sections even though I don't smoke to avoid children, of coarse I can't do that now due to the no smoking in public place law passed in Nevada.

I used to really like kids...loved to babysit for my cousins, etc. Then I was a lifeguard for 8 years, and had to teach swimming lessons every year--I taught people from babies to adults how to swim, but the majority (of course) were kids (6-12 years old, I suppose). I detested teaching swim lessons. The kids were so annoying, "Teacher teacher watch me do this" and they'd cling to you like leeches because they were scared of water, they wouldn't do what they were told--didn't want to get their faces wet or float on their backs, or they'd jump on you instead of to you when being in deep water, practically choking you.

On top of swim lessons, having to chaperone the "pool rats" (kids whose parents used the pool as a surrogate babysitter) every day of the summer got annoying after awhile as well. I liked being a lifeguard, especially at the college rec center, but 8 years of trying to teach kids how to swim cured me of ever wanting my own!
