Ipod Question - Adding a new Ipod?

I bought the new Product Red Nano and am trying to get Itunes to recognize it.

For some reason it isn't showing up on my itunes at all. The new Ipod Nanos don't come with an install CD, so am I supposed to uninstall iTunes and Resinstall it to get it to recognize the Nano?

The user manual is of completely no use either. lol

There tech support is 6am to 6pm? falloff

What a shitty operation they have going on! lol

The error only occurs on Windows systems, and it involves the ipodservice.exe not starting up during the initial installation of Itunes.

There is a webpage for fixing it and I have followed the instructions, but they don't appear to be working.

This nano better sound shit hot when I figure this shit out. lol

You definitely have "tech support" I just renewed my Nano warranty and the # is 1-800-275-2273. I have 2 shuffles and the nano. Also had a hard drive that crashed. What saved me was my Nano. Transferred the music from the Nano to temp computer (and in late January getting the latest in computer technology, WSJ gave good reviews)
Also kept the music from itunes on back up disks. Not spending all that $ for naught.

And I just got off the phone with their helpless desk.

The technician had the audacity to tell me that when "New hardware found" pops up, that the drivers should automatically install. When I tell her that it brings me to a prompt in which I need to identify the drivers, she then tells me "it's the generic microsoft drivers" you should select falloff

Well, they may want to start acting like technicians.

The girl I just talked to hasn't got a clue. She was giving me info contrary to even what the Apple site is telling me.

so wrong! lol

I called back again and the girl I was talking to referred me to an "engineer". He walked through the exact sames steps I had already taken before he hit a road block.

At this point, I'm faced with resinstalling Windows XP just to get my sweet sweet sexy red Ipod nano working. sigh

It was worth a try. I renewed my warranty because I need ALOT of tech support.
So much for the "ask a man" theory. razz

Mac's tech support was absolutely wortheless.

Of course, I can't blame them. The issue ended up being a corrupted installation of Service Pack 2 for Windlows and how it afffected the registration of services in general. I found that I couldn't register any executable as a service, let alone the ipodservice.exe. So in their defense, I would have never seen the issue if I were trying this on an actual mac. And I doubt that if I called Microsoft about one of their pieces of software working on a mac, they wouldn't be able to help much. shrug

When I restored my system to a pre-SP2 install, I was able to install an older version of iTunes and the registration of the Ipod service went off without a hitch. Once SP2 was on the system, it failed to allow me to update to Itunes 7.0.2.16

I just went ahead and swipped the entire machine with a reinstal of Windows XP and started from scratch. Everything now works....

....but I haven't installed Norton yet. That should fuck things up a bit I'm sure. confused

oy.
