I agree. I get the new Zelda for Gamecube because the Wii controller looks like it'd be fun for about 20 minutes (we'll see in a few hours ) I need to be able to veg, perfectly still like a corpse with only my thumbs moving for an extended gaming session. I may be way too lazy for that Wii controller.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, and I'll probably want a week or so to give it a fair shot, but yeah, for a game like call of duty, not sure I want to be up in my living room going dance dance revolution style. Much rather sit down and fuck up some soldiers from the couch.

I think the Wii is a genius way to grow the industry.
There are vast numbers of folks who don't want to invest the time figuring out how to work the over-cumbersome controllers of the PS3 or the 360, and the more natural movements of the Wii will appeal to them. Plus, it's been demonstrated that even though the Wii is most fun when your standing up and doing the true naturally movements, you can actual sit down, and control it with more subtle movements (the controller is very sensitive). The enormouse success of the Nintendo DS proves that you can have the weaker system, but if you are innovative and provide titles that expand the gaming community you can have grow the industry too. And as I've said before, as stated in some article I read, the PS3 and Xbox 360, are likenned to throwing a new coat of paint on the same old house. The Wii is something different. The problem is that even though I love the route Nintendo has taken, they're going to need to throw that bucket of paint on it sooner than the 10 year lifecycle the PS3 is proported to run. It will end up feeling dated in a few years.

While I agree about the innovation of the Wii controller and that Nintendo was brilliant to produce a less expensive console that hooks more casual gamers, the 360 is NOT just a fresh coat of paint on an old house. The HD capabilities alone make it far superior to previous consoles. I've been playing a Ps2 game (Final Fantasy XII) and the 360 lately (Call of Duty 3 and Oblivion) and there's such a vast difference in the games that it's anything BUT the same 'ole thing. That's like saying the SNES was only an Atari 2600 with better graphics. My 360 has become so much more than a gaming console. We use it for all kinds of media, from mp3s to HD movies, and if you've got an HD tv and you want a console, you're really missing out if you only have a Wii. Price aside, the 360 is the way to go right now. The Ps3 will really be the king in 6 months or so. [Edited 12/17/06 7:58am]

[Edited 12/17/06 7:58am] Aside from the eye candy, are there any elements that make the new system more immersible? I'm not saying they're bad systems--certainly they're more capable than their predecessors. But there are lots of folks (like myself) who bore quickly of the eye candy. I'm actually a real big fan of Real Time Strategy games, and I still prefer Age of Mythology and Empire Earth over games like "Battle for Middle Earth" even though the later looks so much nicer than the older games.

Well, I don't have a PS3 yet. But with the 360 I can rip music and insert songs into my games, play hi-def movies and download hi-def tv shows and movies. As well as movie trailers, music videos, and game demos. And this is great for me, because we only have a few hi-def channels available on cable here and they've been real slow about adding them. HD is important to me, because non-HD stuff looks really shitty on an HD tv. I've had my Wii out of the box for a couple of hours now, and to be honest I don't really care for the motion-sensing controllers. It'll be fun for the sports games that comes with the console, but for 1st-person shooters and rpgs (which is about all I play) I don't like it at all. I've only played the new Zelda with it though. It does play GameCube games with the GC controller, so that's cool. So, Wii is great for people who only want to use their console to play games and don't care about HD. And it's cheap. But aside from the cost and the controllers, 360 still rules by far I think. For right now anyway.
