The last NIN show I saw was "The Downward SPiral" tour here in the states, after he blew up. Before the single "closer" hit the radio airwaves, it was possible to actually go to a show were every position in the room was a good one, and the mosh pit was no larger than a small house. Since the single was released, they've become a stadium band to some extent. There is an energy and raw performance Trent gives off in a intimate setting he's just not able to capture in a large audience. His songs, contrary to popular belief, are not athems of teenage angst so much as deeply personal songs, and this is best reflected in a smaller setting. So, yeah--no NIN shows for me anymore. I love bragging about this, so forgive me if you've heard this story before, but I met Trent in Germany at a bar before he blew up. I saw him perform and was never more than 5 or 10 feet away from him during the performance. It was a terrific show. The Germans, who at the time were HUGE Ministry fans, were largely unfamiliar with NIN, and seemed to be blown away by the show. It was the best concert I had ever attended, even knowing that his band plays to tape.

Thank God you realise that And as for NIN; in southern England we only have one stadium in London, and it ain't done. Plus NIN would not sell one out over here, so he plays small venues like the Forum and Brixton Academy only; which make it fucking incredible as you say. At their gig I was about 3ft away from Trent and got hit with his sweat constantly. He looked me in the eye. It was amazing. Fucking amazing. And you could see him get upset during reptile. Just...fuck. Small venues are the best.
