THE BEALES OF GREY GARDENS (for ANXIETY)

I finally watched this movie. I was supposed to see it with a friend in San Francisco but couldn't make it. ANXIETY reminded me about the movie so I NETFLIXED it.

I LOVED this documentary. Edie Beale is so strange and wonderful. Those outfits! Wow!! I could listen to her talk for days and days. It's funny but the way she speaks reminds me a little of Jeri from Strangers with Candy.

I thought Edie's mother was kind of mean to her. She criticised her constantly.

AND I thought their friend JERRY was hot!!!!!

I think Edie Beale is one of the most fascinating people ever in the history of time. There is something a little Jerri Blank-ish about her, I suppose, though Edie is far more classy and STAUNCH. lol

Didn't you love the revolutionary costume montage at the end?

Big Edie could be a bit of a bully now and then, but in general I think she was a sweet lady. Very funny, a little bit vulgar for someone of her upbringing (she's always talking about how she's going to sleep with a priest lol ), and you can tell she did have a very beautifully trained voice when she was younger.

Did you see Grey Gardens or just the new Beales film? I think Grey Gardens has more of a narrative and 'explains' the gals better. The new one is more like a glorified 'deleted scenes' selection.

And yeah, Jerry was kinda hot in his own '70s porn star way. Big Edie was so hot for him! giggle

I didn't see the original. I definately have to get it.
I was confused because I thought that this movie was the original with the extra stuff put back in. The CASTRO theater played the original and this movie back to back. Now I get it.

if you liked 'beales' you'll flip for 'grey gardens'. it's more cohesive, better paced, more insights. the second one is more character studies and little details missed in the first film (like their quasi-roommate lois, who was....INTERESTING, wasn't she? lol ).

Yey! They have the original on NETFLIX too. It's in my queue.

I feel that I'm going to end up being Little Eidie when I grow old. I'll be wearing innappropriate outfits in front of company and I'll be flirting with them.

Yes a real cheap one. It'll probably have mold on it.
