Money-back guarantee if this thread doesn't change your life.

I thought it would be important that I relate to you some random, trivial shit that happened to me this week (in keeping with the site mandate, you understand).

Some of you may remember that bitch of an adventure I had earlier in the week buying a wifi router (she of the hour-forty tech support call to the Phillipines?). Anyhoo...I forgot to tell you guys the best part! After I get into my car in the parking lot of Ye Olde Beste Buye, I spy a truck behind and to the left of me, in my rearview mirror.

The dude doesn't appear to be going anywhere, so I figure he's waiting for my spot. But several seconds go by and he's made no indication of moving back far enough for me to back out easily.

So, I give 'im the old "three-quarter"-turn and make the universal gesture (complete with accompanying silent-movie-style exaggerated lip movements!) to say, "Are you waiting for this spot"?

His window is open and he's saying something I can't hear. So, against my better judgement (I don't usually talk to strangers, even if they're pretty), I roll down my window - but did not let the wind blow back my hair - and say (with the enthusiasm of Fran Lebowitz being offered an all-expenses paid trip to Yosemite), "...Yeah?".

At this point, the young gentleman (I would peg him at younger than Symbolina but older than our beloved Edward Norton) says to me, "Would you be interested in some speakers?".

I, of course, respond with the appropriate rejoinder: "confused What?".

After confirming for me that he was, indeed, trying to sell me some stereo speakers in a Best Buy parking lot and giving me a brief sales pitch (including specs and a "They're, like, brand-new!" verbal guarantee),I politely indicated to him that I would not be investing-at-this-time-but-thanks-anyway. He made a valiant last ditch effort by throwing in an "I know this seems weird", but - alas - he was inexperienced enough in the attempted-parking-lot-random-advertising game not to realize that this phrase must be the opening gambit in any successful moving-speakers-under-shady-circumstances campaign. He lowered and shook his head in an how-the-fuck-am-I-gonna-unload-this-shit exasperated sigh and drove off.

After checking for Ashton Kutcher and/or the ghost of Rod Serling, I backed out and headed off into the horizon, impressed with this young man's entrepeneurial spirit and a new option if my craigslist guitars sale doesn't work out.

P.S. I was gonna tell you about the guy in a parking lot a couple of days later who asked me if I had some pliers on me, but (truth be told) I think I've already devoted way too much time to an Internet message board posting about a couple of guys whose credit rating apparently does not permit them to purchase a clue.

Seacrest, out!

Just hang out in the parking lot of your nearest Best Buy and watch for a guy in a pick-up with brain cells leaking out of his cranium. biggrin

I used to approached by these people in mall parking lots, trying to sell me knockoff colognes, stereos, etc... In fact it happened again to me a few months ago, some guys in a van tried to sell me a plasma TV. I told them I wasn't interested, and suggested they just put it on Ebay instead of freaking people out in parking lots like that.

That's happened to me, and as a previous recipiant of broken glass & missing stereos, I was not particularly interested in supporting that industry.

I really like how they seem to ask one person at random and drive on!

it happened to us at a stop light! the master asked him all sorts of questions, and the speakers turned out to be so crap the guy apologised before we drove away.
