As for looks - and thereby not "metaphorically" I suppose - there are plenty of androgynous prettyboys in Japan that might qualify for that angelic look. Daniel Henney is a favourite of a friend of mine.

As for inner qualities, which is what I'm assuming you mean by "metaphorically", of course there are men that are pure and good enough to eventually be canonized, if that's any measure of anything.

So yeah, I do think Lennon is right, at least to a certain extent, and I do agree that we should stop looking inward. As for "leading", that should be a side effect of us just trying to live our lives the way we know we should. If we do that, others might follow which might in effect make us into leaders.
