isn't it true that in any setting, work, school, internet chat rooms, whatever you prefer, certain people seem to "stick together"? there are people you get along with, and people you don't. so, if someone doesn't agree with someone you get along with, or one of your friends, isn't it natural to "side" with your friend? and if that is the case, would that qualify as a "clique"?

there was a woman who used to work here where i work, and another co-worker and i disliked her intensely. were we said to be a "clique"? not officially. but were we? probably.

interesting discussion! nod

I see what you are saying but people are acting like I'm Molly Ringwald in Breakfast Club when clearly I am Michael Anthony Hall! lol

Are jealousy and envy related because I would think the term envy would be more applicable in this case. The "outside" person really isn't being resentful about your allegiance, they're upset about the exclusion and are hoping to get "in".

Does that make any sense to you?

i think it has to do with a lot of factors, including where you live, what your interests are, what your personality is like, who you're drawn to, what age you are, what sensibilities you have, blah blah blah. i think some scenes and communities are harder to crack than others, and sometimes i think you just have to radiate your own sense of 'scene' and if you're strong enough in who you are, people will gravitate to you sooner or later. i think cliques exist, but i don't believe in them as something that has any kind of exclusive currency.

now there's an interesting aspect of this discussion to investigate... what if it's NOT resentment about exclusion, but rather the allegiance factor? i mean, what if others in the supposed "clique" have wronged the outsider in some way? as i mentioned before if you side with the person who did the wronging does that mean you and this person are in a clique? and in that case, would it be envy? or rather just a general "i hate you all" to the wronging person and the one who sides with them?

something like this happened where i work and i'm SO GLAD that bitch is gone!! lol

no, the bitch was just being a bitch. myself and my coworker both hated her and basically tried to avoid contact with her. did that make us a clique? i guess so. shrug

Sinister

Here is my 2 cents about cliques here on the org. There are always going to be a few people in every social enviornment that will hang out with people just like themselves for many reasons. Some immediately conclude that since they don't interact with everyone just themselves they are a "clique".For example here there may be a group of gay orgers who are friends, orgers that post in a particular section only ect ect....they can be seen as a "clique". By pure definition that is what it is...I think too when threads that are made by someone with a group of friends here and all their friends take part in said thread reinforces that.

With that said the people complaining need to stop reading the threads or start one with your group of friends. If you don't have friends here to do that with then make some...its not hard. The time spent complaining about it you could have made a friend or 2. And to be honest the org for example is not eveyone's cup of tea...go find another forum that is more suited to your interests or a real life crew to hang with. I never understand complaining about it unless the clique in question is being obnoxious about it.
