Just when I think I'm out...

The man has got to pull me back in. As many of you know I coach high school football and teach at a middle school. My high school season ended a few weeks back and I was gonna just kick it and enjoy my break. Well, my middle school I work at is playing this game against another school and I guess its the first time in like 12 years or some long ass time ago that there is going to be a football game between two middle schools. The guy that was supposed to coach it was a good guy but in way over his head. The dude was trying to put in some Madden video game plays. I shit you not he had a play called 582 Donkey Thunder Rock blue! I was like what the hell is that? The players said that they had 10 routes (way too many for 12 -14 year olds, I cut it down to four) a play book of 30 plays ( I cut it down to 5 runs, 5 passes) and recievers were refered to as Donkey Thunder Rock and Blue. I said no you will now be known as X, Y, Z, H and Tailback. Plus he was trying to run 5 - 5 defense. I changed it to a base 4 - 4 with a cover 2 option. Luckily my best friend, who happens to also be my secondary coach works at the school. So we got a week before these kid play on December 20th to teach em to play football! Wish us luck!

Hey, job security! Good luck. It sounds like lots of fun, but you got your work cut out for you.

A pitched ball lodges in the umpire's or catcher's mask or paraphernalia, and remains out of play, runners advance one base; If a foul tip hits the umpire and is caught by a fielder on the rebound, the ball is "dead" and the batsman cannot be called out. The same shall apply where such foul tip lodges in the umpire's mask or other paraphernalia. If a third strike (not a foul tip) passes the catcher and hits an umpire, the ball is in play. If such ball rebounds and is caught by a fielder before it touches the ground, the batsman is not out on such a catch, but the ball remains in play and the batsman may be retired at first base, or touched with the ball for the out. If a pitched ball lodges in the umpire's or catcher's mask or paraphernalia, and remains out of play, on the third strike or fourth ball, then the batter is entitled to first base and all runners advance one base. If the count on the batter is less than three balls, runners advance one base.

So I just got back from our this Junior High football practice. It took us about 2 hours but stuff started clicking especially our screen, counter, and halfback toss. The kids still suck at zone defense, but thats all we are gonna work on tommorow is base 4 - 4 cover 2 zone. The kids are a fun group. I am taking lots of pictures to post soon. lol

I just got back from a scrimmage game with my Middle School Football team. We looked o.k. We won 42 - 21, Not bad for coaching em for a week. Lets see how they do in their bowl game this Wednesday! The school also asked if I could help coach soccer next month for an extra 200 bucks for 3 weeks and I may do it even though I suck at soccer!
