how often do you COOK? I'm talking pots & pans, ingredients & measuring - cooking
It amazes me that people with (and without, but especially with) kids can come home from WORK & actually COOK a meal! More often than not I'm yanking ready-made shit out the freezer b/c I'm usually not in the mood to cook. Given the choice maybe more people would do the same but I have a feeling I'm participating in lazy bitchery up in hea For example I made pasta yesterday - not handmade pasta, some shit from Trader Joes BUT I wanted a certain pasta sauce (garlic parmesan) & my dumb ass went looking for it in a JAR I'm on the phone telling my friend that I couldn't find it & she says, "Why don't you just make it? Don't you have some cream??" It never even dawned on me to make something as simple as friggin' pasta sauce!!! So I got the shit, it's way good, yada yada yada... but it got me thinking: How often to most people COOK? Or maybe I should rename the thread, "how fucking lazy am I??"

not often, usually just the weekends I have the kids. The weekdays are too chaotic to add cooking into the mix. It's tough enough to get everything done as a single parent.
The days I'm by myself, I just don't bother.

I cook for myself about 3 times a week. The other 4 days Im either ordering or someone else cooks for me

Cooking is my other passion in life, apart from music, and I have loads oc cookery and recipe books, or download recipes from online, and when I cook, I usually make everything from scratch and search high and low 2 find specialist ingredients in either supermarkets, farmers markets, specialist food shops!!
I also try and watch cooking shows on TV in order 2 get inspired!!

When I do cook I try to do at least 2 dishes so it lasts a few days - who the hell wants to be in front of the stove all the time
I just don't enjoy cooking as frequently as I "should"

Not that often since I've lived alone. I don't (usually) enjoy it. Which is kind of a bummer, because I'm actually not bad at it.
I need to start cooking more. I can't afford to eat out as much as I do. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

single mom here!
last night made chicken in Thai Sweet Chili Sauce. i cook a 3 or 4 times a week, then reheat the leftovers. breakfast and lunch is taken care of at school, so i don't have to worry about that during the week (except for myself)

Also a problem - when you know what you're doing, you wanna use good stuff, regardless of finances

I don't cook at all. I just heat stuff up.

Almost never anymore since our daughter arrived. Like you say, the time just ain't there no more.
If it was up to me I would cook every day. But it's not up to me! It's up to Lucy!

i cooked more in my old apartment than in my new one. i'm not used to the new kitchen set-up yet. plus, i tend to cook more when i'm dating and have someone to cook for. though i rarely order out for dinner - i at least have some simple semi-prepared thing from the grocery that i can heat up, or i'll prepare some soup or something. i like cooking, though - especially when i'm cooking with other people. it's very enjoyable to me.

Whenever I want something and my mom doesn't wanna cook it.
"How 'bout goulash for dinner?" "Fine, but I ain't cookin' it." I bake alot though. Tarts, cheesecakes, whatever.

She told me that macaroni and cheese was really difficult, so even though it was my favourite meal we couldnt have it often Then she taught me how to make it - Turns out she just didnt like it!

I'm the same. I get semi-prepared things and add my own stuff. Not completely from scratch, but more than just throwing a frozen meal in the oven. I also very much enjoy cooking with other people. And I do enjoy baking as well, but I never, ever bake anymore. (I can't eat any of it. ) Violett and I cook together very well. I think it would be nice to find a partner I can work together with in the kitchen on a regular basis. |

seems like every time i'm on the phone with my dad he asks me if i've made anything from scratch for dinner, and i'm always like "no, stuff's too expensive!" i don't wanna get a cookbook either, i would much rather learn how to make stuff from my dad instead.
on top of that, i wasn't really taught how to cook anything while growing up. all the kitchens in the places i grew up in were way too small for more than one person to stand in.

I guess modern life and all the schedules, makes most of us not very "cookish".

not for me. i'm not as busy as most of the other people i know, so i've got a lotta time to try my hand at cooking. sometimes i wish i had someone who i could cook for and share my food with, as opposed to cooking solely for myself.

It's tough to cook for one. Especially when you're just learning and most recipes are for families. You have to get good at knowing what you can freeze and what makes good leftovers for work lunches and such. |
