The National Board of Review is always the first big group to dish out the awards. Here are their picks for 2006 and the accompanying article from E!online:

Exactly. I have no idea how The Departed, Leonardo Dicaprio or Scorsese got nominated. The movie was not that good. On the other hand, Babel kicks much ass.

I haven't seen most of those movies. What's good that's out this year and what's bad that's on the list. I for one really want to see a lot of the moives listed like "Departed", "Last King of Scottland" and "Little Miss Sunshine".

I've heard the exact opposite from critics ("Babel" kind of sucked..."Depated" one of the best of the year). When it comes to the serious stuff, I tend to agree.
