Hyphenated last names suck.....

I hate them. Do the kids get the hyphenated last name too? What happens if a child who has a hyphenated last name grows up and wants to get married to another person who has a hyphenated last name? Do they then have to use FOUR names!?!? Also, people who have hyphenated last names are snooty 99.9% of the time. Most of them also have bad breath.

Please join me and tell me why YOU think hyphenated last names suck.

i think they're okay, but what if you have a daughter and you give her the hyphenated name and then she gets married and she wants to hyphenate too? keep it up over generations and your great grandchild's name is gonna end up looking like a damn law firm.

nod

Pretty soon your initials might actually be able to spell out a sentence. What if your initials ended up saying something foul or offensive? Slippery slope. nod

Oh god. I've got a funny story...

My husband's ex wife (he was her husband #1) was so pissed that he and I were getting married, she hyphenated her last name with her husband #2 and husband #3s last names, thinking in some psychotic way that it would make my husband jealous.

falloff

pssst, he doesn't care either way. wink

Nice backpeddling. rolleyes

But seriously, my son lives with me so to have just his father's last name would be kinda weird... and I felt that just taking my name wasn't fair to his father.

I'm sure he'll decide to go with just one or the other when he is old enough to choose. He better pick mine.

In my world Bruno is cool indeed. Herman was just such an old-fashioned name. I've grown to like it, though.

I like that about age. Old things that looked horrid back then now look pretty good. I am good at being a Herman.

Herman never was nor will be ever cool, lol
But thanks for trying.
If only my name was Bruno.

Well, my last name used to be hyphenated three generations ago, when my grand father's father decided it was too much of a bother and butchered off the second name.
