I have an ivory/off-white wool winter coat and last week when was raining very hard, I had to pick up a package from the Post Office and somehow red marker/ink(?) from the package rubbed off onto the front of the coat. I took the coat to the dry cleaners and picked it up today...and the stain is still there. They said they tried twice to get it out. The stain is about the size of a saucer and on the front by the right pocket.

I'm really upset b/c I just bought this coat and a new hat/scarf/gloves to match and I can't afford to buy another one; but I can't very well go around wearing the coat with the stain right on the front. (And it's freezing in NY so I need to wear it!)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can/should try? I'm desperate.

Yes, I've eaten peanut butter, but I don't think it's a good idea to smear it on an off-white coat....

I spilled coffee on my khakis at work the other day, and a coworker made it disappear using a Tide stain stick.



It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.

However - if the coat was already drycleaned and the stain remains, I don't think it's going anywhere.

How about some creative "design" license? An embroidered patch or large brooch perhaps?

I used to have a fair amount of luck removing ink stains from white lab coats using rubbing alcohol. Put it stain-side-DOWN on top of something absorbant (paper towels or whatever) and pour a liberal amount of rubbing alcohol through the back of the fabric. Blot out as much as you can, and repeat. Then soap it up with whatever kind of laundry soap is used on wool, rinse it really well, let it dry, and go at it again if needed.

If yes; remove both.

re to HamsterHuey: good idea, but unfortunately the pockets are the kind that are inside (only slits in the side seams).

re to PurpleJedi: I checked that out, but on the back it says not good for ink and do not use on wool, so I decided against it.
