The "Man gets eaten by grizzly" movie It's on this week.
I have wanted to see the movie because I love bears but I don't know whether to watch it because of what happens. Has anyone seen it? Here are my concerns: - Is it disrespectful? What do you think about the ethics of watching a movie where the man dies on film, even though (I believe) they only play the sound. - Did it leave you disturbed and how do you think it would affect someone who is quite sensitive? (I find my mind plays on things - I really don't like watching things that may leave me dwelling on them because sometimes I can get depressed about them). - If I do watch it, is it possible to miss the ending or do they play the footage during the movie itself? | |

i've seen it, and i thought it was fascinating. there are a lot of interviews with friends, etc. throughout the movie, and some great nature shots. i found his obvious mental decline the most disturbing. in terms of the scene where he and his girlfriend are mauled, i think it comes at the very end of the movie, so you could skip it if you wanted to. all in all, the story is handled with much respect, imo. | |

It is called Grizzly Man and it is the best film I've seen the last 5 years and one of the best I've seen the last 10 years.

Absolutely not. Werner Herzog, who put together the material is a real character with strong opinions about everything and he sometimes disagrees with the views expressed by Timothy Treadwell (the subject), but he is never disrespectful. Quite the opposite, he handles Treadwell's legacy with far more care than some of Treadwell's own friends. What do you think about the ethics of watching a movie where the man dies on film, even though (I believe) they only play the sound.
They don't even play the sound, which I think is a great decision. You only get to watch Herzog listen to the sound, but the audience can't hear it. - Did it leave you disturbed and how do you think it would affect someone who is quite sensitive? (I find my mind plays on things - I really don't like watching things that may leave me dwelling on them because sometimes I can get depressed about them).
I felt disturbed in some ways, but not because of any graphic violence because there is none. The themes that are disturbing are far more subtle than that. You should definitely watch it!  | |

whats the story behind it? the movie is called grizzly man, its more of a documentary. its about timothy tredwell and his girlfriend amie huguenard. he lived among the grizzlies filming them and interacting with them trying to prevent them from being killed. they were eventually killed and eaten by one of the bears. | |

from what i remember (i saw it in the theater), the actual footage was not shown at all. we get to see someone as they watch the footage, but that's it. that's enough, really. i don't know if they changed their mind and added the footage for the DVD, but it sounded as if they weren't going to release it to the public. | |

Bears need to consume an unbelievable # of calories prior to hibernation. The group of bears Treadwell was familiar with,were gone and some lone renegade, late for hibernation, and still hungry showed up. It's like serving yourself on a platter.
I thought throughout the movie the circumstances bordered on insanity. If the food supply dwindled even with the friendly bears, he would have been dinner. | |
