CalhounSq said: Notice the pattern of people automatically linking the concept of alcohol to being drunk & being an alcoholic?? Too much of almost anything can be bad - it's not the substance in this case, it's the user. But blame the substance if that's all you can see out of this
Why all the stigma attached to it? Can people not see past their own hangups? "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I've been on both sides...tried drinking when in my 20s, early 30s, sometimes too much...the last time I mixed too many drinks (beer, champaign and shots of tequila) had the mother-of-all-pukes and I thought to myself: WHY? Why put yourself through that?
Again though, if I were drinking in moderation, that wouldn't have happened. Now, I don't drink at all...not even a beer. For some of us, wisdom comes with age. Happiness is measured from within your sober state...if you have to pop a pill or slug a drink to be happy, are you really? Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

bad bad BAD... IMO only
tonight I travelled back from a weekend away... my Brother and I went away to stay with friends and on train journey back we had a VERY extremely drunk lady behind us who kept poking and touching me so much so that my Brother got cranky and told her to leave me alone. that was for most of the journey - then for about half of it on the other side of this other lady was a man who got on and talked to himself for the remainder of it. not completely sure if he was drunk, high or what his story was but I'm willing to bet drunk. My Brother was getting off one stop before me but he said he wanted me off the train with him lol this is just one experience that leads me to the conclusion that I detest alcohol with a passion

I have no qualms about a glass of wine a day. It's pretty standard in alot of European culture, and when a child is brought up with that- not only do they hold their liquer well, but they are least likely to go out binge drinking when they're younger. Alcohol can most certainly be bad, but like anything in life- it's all about moderation No hablo espanol,no!

Define "drank" I'm curious b/c my last bf didn't drink at all & it was kind of a bummer for me. We couldn't just go kick it & have a drink, or go to certain clubs that were laid back & drinkie - he wanted to have a soda & play Madden football or some stupid shit Needless to say I was frequently w/ my friends & he was frequently w/ his But do tell - you mean someone who even has ONE drink? Someone who drinks to get drunk? Someone who thinks alcholol is okay in general or do they have to think it's the devil?

I don't want to be with any one right now who drinks alcohol.....I may change my mind, I may not. But for now it's not something I want to have around me. [Edited 12/10/06 16:39pm]

It tastes good... It's a social thing (like going out for coffee)... And on the altered state tip, it can be relaxing. I've heard people say they CAN'T WAIT till I can hit the club and get a drink...it's sad to me. I am a naturally happy person, it just took me 30 years to find out...

I am a naturally happy person, it just took me 30 years to find out... OF COURSE you can enjoy yourself by having a glass of water, orange juice, or what have you. In fact, most of the time I'm the one sipping on a soda while everyone else is drinking martinis. That being said, the culture of alcohol is more than just getting drunk until your numb and then puking it up the next day. There are finer points to alcohol from its production to its comsumption. Some people are really into wine, not just for drinking reasons but because they are into the way it is made and the way it tastes. Many people who drink wine can tell you what kind of grapes were used, when they were harvested, what conditions they were grown in, etc. because they actually study all aspects of the wine. They're not drinking it just to get drunk and escape. Other people are into brandy, whiskey, and vodka for the same reasons. Not everyone is drinking it to get wasted. While it is true that alcohol alters the mind so does caffiene and sugar. Both alcohol and caffiene can have negative effects but it doesn't mean that both are bad and should be banned and that the only people who indulge in them are sorry, unhappy souls who are trying to escape reality. I mean really...that's a bit much.

i've always loved alcohol, but now that i haven't been able to have it for almost a month i'm starting to rethink it. don't get me wrong i still love wines and stuff, just not able to have it lately. but at the same time, i've actually begun feeling slightly smarter now that i'm not drinking. i'll still smoke pot but i'm actually able to read my text books with interest again, and further more, even retain the info.
