It's like asking. "I had too much to eat but I'm still hungry, should I go and eat some more?"
A few drinks are nice but some people don't call it a party unless they are totally wasted. Gotta balance out how often that can happen right?

It drives me nuts when I see grown adults drink themselves into oblivion at bars. People in their 30's, 40's, 50's, etc, that should know better. And when they cause problems, the next day they all fall back on the same excuse "I don't remember a thing, I was so drunk". As if that makes it all okay.
You have plenty of opportunity in the journey from sober to shitfaced to slow it down a little and pace yourself. It's fun to go out and have a few drinks to loosen up and chat with friends, but there's also those people that the moment they walk into the bar they start sucking em down back to back like it's the end of the world or something.

Good for some people, But bad for those who can't control it. The worst I ever seen was a man on Franklin Avenue here in MPLS drinking a bottle of Rubbing alcohol!! For Real!

Dude above said just what I was gonna say - it's good for some, bad for others. I think I've only been "drunk" 3 or 4 times in my LIFE - some people drink to get drunk (bad), some like the taste & can handle a little buzz. No biggy unless you've got a problem...

Don't get me wrong. I have a drink or two every now and again. I don't however think drinking is a good thing. If it was to be so black and white as good or bad, then I would go with drinking is a bad thing. I don't drink while socializing. I think that's a very bad thing. I believe if you are not secure enough with yourself to be yourself without social lubrcation, your time would be better spent working on yourself then in social events. Drinking has caused more pain then it has joy throughout life for society. I'll have a couple of drinks every now and again for an altered conscious experience, but sobriety is truly a beautiful thing when you have your ducks in a row. Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I don't like being drunk. It makes some one else out of me, someone with far less intelligent and focused. I hate the feeling of hearing a conversation and thinking: "If I was sober, I'd be able to say something substantial."
I prefer a joint. It's much more 'me', and it brings at least some creativity and love for music... But I don't drink or smoke that much lately. I love my work and head far too much for that.

I'll have a couple of drinks every now and again for an altered conscious experience, but sobriety is truly a beautiful thing when you have your ducks in a row. so you drink alone? i have very limited experience with alcohol, but it has always been a social thing for me. Not because I'm better socially when I drink, I'm pretty much the same as when I don't, but because it's there and it's a part of the event I'm at. When I was living in New York City, my friends and I would go to this tapas bar that had the best sangria and order a pitcher with our meal. It was wonderful and nobod got wasted. A few months ago, I was on a catamaran trip for a birthday party and we all had these delightfully good rum punches because it's a part of the atmosphere. Some people like to get drunk and they will do so alone or in a crowd, it doesn't matter. Sone drink because they're socially anxious and that's no good either. Others can appreciate alcohol for what it is and what it isn't and can make a rational choice as to whether they indulge or not.

I know from righteous, I know from sin...
Growing up in a family wrecked by alcoholism, I know from experience the havoc it wrecks on family life and stability. But that is the addiction part of it. When used in moderation, it is heaven. You got to be aware of your limits, though, as with every addictive substance considered 'legit', like coffee and cigarettes.

As a former moderate drinker, I really see no advantages to alcohol anymore. 'Less you wanna ply somebody with it for some info, of course.

Notice the pattern of people automatically linking the concept of alcohol to being drunk & being an alcoholic?? Too much of almost anything can be bad - it's not the substance in this case, it's the user. But blame the substance if that's all you can see out of this
Why all the stigma attached to it? Can people not see past their own hangups?
