Made In China

Last year I started a thread after Christmas because most of the gifts we received were made in China.

Now that the Holiday shopping season is in full gear, I wanted to ask if anyone has yet to buy a gift NOT made in China?

Growing up, my family always looked for "Made in the USA" (or "Made in Italy/Brazil" for shoes).

Not anymore.

EVERYTHING that we have bought so far (that is non-clothing) is from China. Not just the gifts, but the decorations, wrapping paper, etc. Even the "expensive" stuff.

I am really astounded.

Does anyone actually care where their products are made anymore? Does price outweigh quality?

Yes I care. And I don't believe China necessarily makes inferior goods.

What I can see coming and am surprised that western governments aren't reacting to it, is a situation where everybody is buying from China because it's so cheap and then companies in other countries won't be able to compete so factories will close. Then China will start putting prices up. Mission accomplished. China rules the world.

Yes I care and I always check

you get what you pay for ( most times )

somethings it matters to me and some things not

like my soap base ... i INSIST on USA made 100% natural base... costs me about 15 $ more a box ( then the lesser quality from africa lets say ) but that IS my choice and my $

biggrin

Well...I wouldn't necessarily believe that they aim to "rule the world"...but what is worrisome is that by becoming so dependant on ONE source for ALL of your manufactured goods, you pretty much have to play by their rules. And being as how China is a totalitarian regime, I would think that the Bush administration would put profit margins aside and help US companies out.

Whatever happened to the "Made in the USA" campaigns of the Regan era?

Clothes are actually being made in China now in mass.

The restrictions on Chinese Exports were lifted this year, so expect economies in Central and South America to do even worse than before. Major companies are shifting their operations to China from these other countries.

Interesting that now China is strengthening restrictions on foreign imports!
