The Beales of Grey Gardens

Anyone who knows me knows what a huge fan I am of the 1974 film "Grey Gardens" and the infamous ladies of the Beale family who are featured in the documentary.

Well.

I just purchased "The Beales of Grey Gardens" - 90 minutes of unused footage from the film which haven't been shown before this year. It was shown in NYC earlier this year, but I couldn't get out there to see it. I've been DYING to see this film, and now it's burning a hole in my backpack until I get home from work! AUUUGHH!!!!

If anyone has never seen "Grey Gardens", now is a great time to get into it, because this supplemental film is supposed to fill in some gaps and questions people have about Big Edie and Little Edie. Plus, hell...it's 90 minutes more of their rants, arguments, warbly singing and revolutionary costumes! I'm getting chills just thinking about it.

Anyone seen the original GG? Or the play? Once you see the film, you'll never forget it. nod

Okay, this thread is gonna get like ZERO replies. lol

you would ADORE this movie. you and carrie both.

as far as i'm concerned, it's one of those movies where i'll always remember where i was the first time i saw it and how i reacted at first. i don't know why it hits me so hard, but i can't ever get tired of watching it.

I don't doubt it. All of the cool kids seem to love it.

I wanna watch it with you and Carrie. Can we have a Grey Gardens invasion? pout

edie was more of a stones fan, you know. she used to get up early every morning and practice her spanish dancing to 'exile on main street'.

true story. lol

i was suprised by how good the musical was, although i am still against the idea they are going with, doing it as a feature with drew barrymore and jessica lange

maggie gyllenhall (howeverhthehell you spell it) would have been a better little edie. hell, in an alternate/age-appropriate world, mary steenburgen would have made a good little edie. anyone but drew. and i LIKE drew.

jessica lange i think can pull off big edie, though. i can see it.

This premiered at TIFF, I believe. Still have not seen either of the films, but I know that Winona Ryder and Kevyn Aucoin used to love watching Grey Gardens together and I did meet Kevyn. Does that count? confuse

I was supposed to see this at the CASTRO THEATER last month with a friend. I guess they had a seperate show with lots of extra footage. My friend told me a lot about these crazy gals. I just wish I would've seen it.
