i scoured my neighborhood looking for an ASHTRAY last friday.
not one place in my big city neighborhood sold 'em! oh, i could find any kind of cigarette or cigar i wanted, but nothing to put 'em out in. i even came across butterfinger-flavored lube. who wants to squirt something down there that tastes like butterfinger? that's NASTY! but apparently it's more in-demand than a damn ashtray! so anyway, yeah. ashtrays.

that chit tasted like carbonated kids' cough syrup, in a way. stuff i miss (most of this stuff is iowa-related): -- hiland potato chips ("the chippiest chips around"...dunno if they were just an iowa thing or if they were distributed all over the midwest) -- mustards restaurants (namely, the mustards that used to be over on 19th and forest in des moines. they used to serve up sugar biscuits along with the usual menu ) -- rosie the bookmobile -- jolly rancher fire stix -- hy-vee stores (when i moved here to mpls i thought ya'll would have one up here...but nope, i'd have to go towards the minnesota-iowa border to set foot in one) -- pig ears (seriously! my mom used to buy packs of 'em all the time when i was a kid...haven't seen any since) -- boxes of government cheese (again, haven't seen any since i was a kid)
