Let's all give a shoutout to the artist, Georges Jeanty.
He is/was a member of the Org and I have had the opportunity to chat with him on a few occasions...but, it's been a while... Good to see that he's still workin' and his art's looking better and better everytime he does something new. Great work, Georges.

I don't think so. I can't imagine Kennedy calling Buffy "Ma'am". Of course, I could be totally wrong. true Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

Here's an interview from this past summer with artist Georges Jeanty about being asked to draw the new Buffy series.
From Comics Continuum: GEORGES JEANTY TALKS BUFFY
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- He wasn't a fan when the show was on the air, but Georges Jeanty loves Buffy the Vampire Slayer now. Jeanty, who had never watched the show through its seven seasons on The WB and UPN, was Buffy creator Joss Whedon's hand-picked selection as artist for Dark Horse Comics' upcoming Buffy series, which serves as a "Season 8," picking up where the show ended on UPN. "They were nice enough to send me the DVDs from the last two seasons," Jeanty told the Continuum. "And I really missed out on something, how good it actually is and how comic-related it is." Jeanty, currently working on The American Way for WildStorm, has never worked with Dark Horse. He received an e-mail from editor Scott Allie that got the ball rolling. "He said that Joss wanted me for the book," Jeanty said. "I really couldn't believe it until I got an e-mail from Joss, saying he liked my work. He's a comics guy and mentioned he liked my stuff on Bishop." Jeanty said he will be using likenesses for the series, which presents a challenge. "It's hard, only because if you nail the likenesses and that makes it look like a photograph," Jeanty said. "And a photograph is a still image. With story-telling, you have to create the illusion of movement. "So hopefully I can keep the comic-book element and find a happy medium." Jeanty said Buffy will probably be a series of mini-series. He said he isn't sure when the book will be scheduled. "Dark Horse would love to have it for the holidays, and I think it would be perfect for Halloween," he said. http://www.comicscontinuu...jeanty.htm spelling edit [Edited 12/7/06 14:07pm]

He really does a good job of getting the likenesses, yet making it not look like copies from photos. Look what I've started with Georges. But, it's nice to see the support he's getting on his latest endeavour. He's really a great guy...wonderful to talk to... I do have a query about the Buffy comic though... I know that Dark Horse has the license to the Buffyverse, but how did IDW come to making comics featuring other characters (e.g. Spike, Angel, etc.)? Shouldn't all of that still be under Dark Horse's licensing agreement? *hmm*

At one time, DH had the Angel rights as well, but IDW got them when the rights reverted. Technically, DH can still use the characters of Angel, Spike, Wesley or Cordelia, since those are also associated with the Buffy property, but they can't use Fred/Illuria, Gunn, Connor, Lorne, etc, as those are characters specific to the Angel franchise. Likewise, IDW can't use any Buffy-specific characters (though they might be able to use Willow and Buffy, since both appeared on Angel. I'm not sure about this detail). A character like Faith should be able to appear in either book, since she was featured on both series quite regularly. Essentially, Joss is just being cool about it. He could be an asshole and legally step all over IDW's toes, but he's respecting them and only using Angel and Spike sparingly, so as to not draw attention away from that series. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I still find it hilarious that in the episode in which they went to Europe to fight over Buffy ('The Girl In Question') only to find her there dating "The Immortal", she was a fake.

I loved Spike in "In the Dark"...he was sooooo hilarious... [Angel has just saved Rachel from a violently abusive boyfriend, while Spike watches — and narrates — from the rooftop.] Spike [as Rachel]: How can I thank you, you mysterious, black-clad hunk of a night thing? Spike [as Angel]: No need, little lady, your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a bad-ass vampire, but love and a pesky curse defanged me. Now I'm just a big, fluffy puppy with bad teeth. [Rachel steps closer to Angel; Angel steps back, warding her off with his hands.] Spike [as Angel]: No, not the hair! Never the hair! Spike [as Rachel]: But there must be some way I can show my appreciation. Spike [as Angel]: No — helping those in need's my job. And working up a load of sexual tension, and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough! Spike [as Rachel]: I understand. I have a nephew who's gay, so... Spike [as Angel]: Ah. Say no more. Evil's still afoot... and I'm almost out of that Nancy-boy hair gel that I like so much. Quickly, to the Angel-mobile — AWAY! [They leave. Spike lights up a cigarette.] Spike [as himself]: Go on with you. Play the big, strapping hero while you can. You have a few surprises coming your way. The Ring of Amara, a visit from your old pal Spike, and — oh, yeah — your gruesome, horrible death.

Even though Spike was more of a Buffy character? Like MadMonkey said, copyright laws are tricky, but when it comes to something like this, usually the different rights holders have the ability to use characters who appeared on each respective show. That means that a character who was on both shows could technically be used by both companies. Of course, IDW could probably make a case in court that they have the rights to the Angel property, and that those characters appearing in another comic by a different publisher negatively impacts their sales. Still, those kind of legal battles usually don't end well, and IDW and Dark Horse are both companies who tend to "play well with others", so it probably won't happen. The fact that Joss is being respectful, and only planning on using those guys "sparingly" is a good move (both creatively and legally). This could pave the way for Joss doing an Angel series down the road for IDW, and even possible cross-overs between DH and IDW (here's hoping!). Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I so want to know what happens after the last episode of 'Angel'! And there should be a collected U.S. DVD box for 'Angel' just like 'Buffy'! I sort of liked that Angel ended on an open note. Both series had always left little bits here and there for the viewer to make up their minds on, some big, some small. Also, that way it leaves Joss off the hook if he never gets around to continuing the story. Giving a defintive ending for good or bad would've left half the fanbase pissed because it didn't end the way they wanted it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
