i just don't see the point in taking a tree from its roots to decorate while it dies in your living room

comfort I can understand your point, but as katt said above, you can always buy a tree that is wrapped in burlap to plant in your yard after the holidays are over. smile

Well, as Carrie said above, there are tree farms in existence specifically for raising Christmas trees, and the trees that are cut down are replaced. smile

while that may be true
how many people actually do?

everytime i see cars pass with giant trees strapped to their cars i silently wish a family of squirrels is preparing to unleash their wrath once they get home.

giggle @ squirrels going ballastic on someone with a tree on their car.

Not sure how many people actually do that, but as I said in an above post, my uncle used to plant his Christmas tree outside every year. smile

Growing up with fresh trees my whole life, I really think fake ones are ugly. And they don't smell nice. And they just aren't Xmas to me.
Of course, in my own home I have a pink tinsel one, so there. giggle

We haven't bought a live tree in ages. I think my mom just got sick of the upkeep....watering it, and sweeping up the mess it'd leave on a regular. I remember having fun as a kid though.....going to big tree farms and riding on hayrides picking out the tree. I think I'll stick to fake ones....because I'm lazy lol I do love the smell of live trees though.

For as long as I can recall, I've always had a fake tree.

When I was newly-married, my wife & I went to Ikea and got one of their real trees (it was like, $20.00 and if you brought it back for recycling they refunded half).

It fell twice (there was water EVERYWHERE) and we were sweeping up pine needles for MONTHS.

Ruined the experience for us.

Xmas trees to me are like flowers. They're grown on farms for a specific decorative purpose. It's not like trees that are taken down aren't replaced.

Oh, it's not that for me. I have no remorse for trees, animals, little children, or the elderly.

We were at Michaels Arts & Crafts store this weekend...they have pre-light trees (small ones) in red, pink, white and lime. The cords on the lights are the same color as the trees, which was cool.

closer to christmas I might put the lights on, but its long time to try and keep
the babies away from the tree until then!
