Possibly a healthier immune system having a stronger reaction? Which might also explain why you're somebody who is doing ok without meds.

Thanks for the thread. I know you avoid the " omfg sad rose " kind of attention a lot, understandably, but I do think it's wonderful for people who don't know any HIV+ folks to have a sense of the reality of it.

Mwah! heart

heart

i know i dont have to tell you how much i love you, cause you already know.

I do know. smile

Okay, Chris, I could say I love you, and I do hug

but, you know, your socks probably stink after being in your costume shoes...and that is nasty.

and, when you sneeze, you probably get one of those little pieces of snot that you don't realize is just a glimpse in your nose...and that is nasty.

and you have probably accidently burst out a lil fart in a bookstore or somethin, and thats nasty.

But you, dear one, are loved by so many, loved by God, because you are beautiful. And that's not nasty at all.

falloff

now that's sentiment i love.

thought you would appreciate a lil' stink lol

I have a question. Maybe two.

1) You mentioned that you stopped taking medication after a year of your diagnosis because of the side effects. So what treatments, if any, are you taking now?

I just googled this info, thought I'd share:

The key to successful HIV drug treatment is adhering to the prescribed combination each and everyday. To that end, drug manufacturers Gilead Sciences and Bristol-Myer-Squibb have gained FDA approval for their joint venture; the first once-a-day three drug combination tablet for the treatment of HIV. Atripla is the name of the new tablet that combines the existing HIV drugs Sustiva (efavirenz), Emtriva (emtricitabine) and Viread (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate). The approval of this drug provides HIV care providers with the first true once per day therapy.

and

2) Forgive my ignorance, but you stated that you only have sex now with special partners. Special meaning also HIV positive partners? Or special, meaning partners you trust and are close to?

And thanks for sharing your story, I think people can always benefit from knowing more about HIV/AIDS when it comes firsthand from someone they know.

Yeah, some research has just come out showing that outcomes are better for people who stay on meds. Which is unfortunate; it had been thought that people whose viral loads/cell counts were ok could go off meds to take breaks from the side effects. It now appears that it's not a good idea, as far as living longer.

Might still be worth it to some as a quality of life issue, though. The side effects can be so bad for some people. sad

As an individual i feel very proud and empowered when i see people like yourself carrying on brightly no matter what.

I'm stating that because i get frustrated when i see people around me overreacting over the silliest things in life, whom i try to keep away from because i tend to take this life as easy as possible because i'm seriously only living it once, so might as well enjoy the good in it.

thank you for sharing, you inspired me a big deal nod

I'm very late in my response, but I hope that doesn't matter too much. I just read the interview and I want to thank Retina for this, but most of all Chris, thank you for being so honest. I was great to read you are handling all of this so strong.

I only know one positive person, and that's an African girl who was adopted. By the time she was adopted (as a baby), the fosterparents knew she was infected. Her brother had just died, her mother had fled and she was fighting for her life. She came to Belgium, and for as far as I know, she's still leading a normal life. She must be about 14 now.
