It's interesting that you felt symptoms so quickly. I read from a lot of sources that many people who are infected don't experience any symptoms at all for upwards of several years.

like any virus, your body tries to fight off the infection by raising the temperature, attacking it, etc.

intial infection is different from symptoms associated with hiv/aids.

i've never had any symptoms associated with hiv/aids.

the initial infection is different, the nightmares were a side effect of the meds.

the colds are just common

All I know is that your laugh and personality is infectious. I'm not just saying that to be cute either.

By the way peeps, the 3rd annual 'Light To Unite' website has gone live again, this year the Bristol-Myers group will donate $1 to the US National AIDS fund for every candle lit - up to $100,000.

Go light one, it takes seconds. Then tell a friend. Hell, tell two.

Interesting. So that means you can detect initial infection (though you could always confuse it for something else)?

Anyway, thanks for sharing your story. Nothing brings out someone's true character quite like adversity.

nod

that's part of the reason I can pinpoint when i was infected, and am a rare case. I tested negative DURING initial infection (takes about 30 days to show up in a test).

I can't believe I didn't know this stuff. America is undereducated about it for sure.

So can you always detect initial infection through this method or no? Is it possible for someone to get infected without their body then fighting it like Chris' did? Anyone know?

"The symptoms of initial HIV infection are not very specific. If a person is infected, a few weeks after infection some people experience a flu-like illness. Only a fifth of people experience symptoms which are serious enough to require a doctor's attention."

Found that on a website. Hmm.

What I already respect so much about Chris after reading this thread is the way in which he sounds like he's living his life regardless of the disease, but also acknowledging it and using his experience to help others. That shows a hell of a lot of integrity.
