( Safe is a over stated thought as it were) It IS for a 4 bedroom house and apartments in my area go for between 2200.00 and 2400.oo a month. That said..... I am getting off good. My daughter has 1 more year at her high school.... after which I will likely move nearer the city her University is in and little man will enter Jr High so perfect timing. To which, I will be locked in for 6 additional years as I believe in giving a child a solid stable start if at all possible and in the case of me it is. here's hoping she wants to go to berkley

Roomates.com It's basically a myspace for roomate seekers You can create a profile and browse profiles on interested people. And the cool thing, is you can establish up front what you want them to be like (non smoker, age, sex, pets, career even). I always chose folks 30+ years of age, or full time college students with jobs. The trick is to establish the type of relationship you want right up front. I told my roomate from the beginning that this was strictly a living situation, and that I did not want the two of us to share lives together (no friends, etc.). He's been my roomate for 2 years now and he's quiet, respectful, and I know almost nothing about him and vice versa. Seriously, my roomate and I say "hello" but almost never talk to each other outside of that. It seems like a cold situation, but it works out for the both of us. The first time I lived with a roomate in my house it was one of my best friends, and that was a disaster. We're not even friends anymore. Good info!

We used to have a rule in Air Force dorms. Never team two girls up. It sucked for the guys cuase we'd all have roomates until you made Senior Airman rank, but the girls almost always hit the ground running with their own private doorm rooms. The dorm cheifs and first sergeants preffered figuring out the living arrangements despite limitted availability than having to break up two girls clawing each other's eyes out every week.

I must say, the best roommates I ever had were guys. Though, my very first roommate in the dorms at college was great. I thought it would be awful, cause she was, like, homecoming queen of her high school and I was uber snobby alterna-chick and I assumed we'd hate each other. But since we knew we were never gonna really be friends and we respected each others space and posessions, we got along great. I even got her listening to a lot pf my music. |

The idea of sharing your home with a stranger must be daunting. I don't know what to suggest really. I guess a student might bring problems but then a more mature person usually has baggage too.
Just make sure if you do this that you are comfortable with the person. It still is YOUR home
