Ug its time to face the facts

I need to get a room mate! The concept mortifies me but it is time to face it! My rent will now jump to $1900.00 which remains really good in my area but with my new retirement plans and the like I am going to have to consider the prospect.

So give me your ideas and thoughts.

I know! sigh At times like these I wish I lived in San Fran.

lol and at times like these I am painfully aware that my friends and allies are dispersed around the world and how little I know my intermediate circle... lol

Not that I regret that in the least but I need to work on it a bit...

I never have, actually. Every time I've had a roommate it was a friend I already knew.

Just make a list of what you want (must haves, like female, non-smoker, and wants, like, enjoys music and art smile ), put out an ad somewhere and interview them first. On the phone and in person. Be incredibly candid about your living habits, what you won't budge on and what you're willing to compromise. Encourage them to do the same.

I have a roomate and it works out beautifully.

Roomates.com

It's basically a myspace for roomate seekers lol
You can create a profile and browse profiles on interested people. And the cool thing, is you can establish up front what you want them to be like (non smoker, age, sex, pets, career even).

I always chose folks 30+ years of age, or full time college students with jobs.

The trick is to establish the type of relationship you want right up front. I told my roomate from the beginning that this was strictly a living situation, and that I did not want the two of us to share lives together (no friends, etc.). He's been my roomate for 2 years now and he's quiet, respectful, and I know almost nothing about him falloff and vice versa.

Seriously, my roomate and I say "hello" but almost never talk to each other outside of that. It seems like a cold situation, but it works out for the both of us. The first time I lived with a roomate in my house it was one of my best friends, and that was a disaster. We're not even friends anymore.

That's very true. That's one reason I can't up and move back to my hometown. The houses are 50% cheaper but then so is the pay. confused

I am afraid that is per month, in a very child solid area.. ( Safe is a over stated thought as it were) It IS for a 4 bedroom house and apartments in my area go for between 2200.00 and 2400.oo a month. That said..... I am getting off good. My daughter has 1 more year at her high school.... after which I will likely move nearer the city her University is in and little man will enter Jr High so perfect timing. To which, I will be locked in for 6 additional years as I believe in giving a child a solid stable start if at all possible and in the case of me it is.

that is absolutely the ideal situation. nod one of my roommates is sooo clingy, but i can't help being polite to her even though i've no interest in being her friend. neutral
