Woman Neglects To Tell Police Missing Bear Is Stuffed No Rescue Too Small For Lowe Police
POSTED: 11:34 am CST November 30, 2006 MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A bear is loose on the highway. Please find him, Nicole Butz told the Indiana State Police in Lowell. Troopers Jeff Council and Randy Palmer were immediately dispatched to Interstate 94 near the Michigan City exit and began looking for a bear that they could only imagine was interfering with traffic. Butz, of Kalamazoo, Mich., may have neglected to mention that the bear in question was a brown stuffed teddy bear. She had been visiting family in Chicago over the weekend, and her childhood keepsake flew out of the luggage carrier she had attached to the roof of the car. No rescue appears to be too small for the police, who adjusted their search and found the bear on the inner shoulder of the highway. Thankfully, the bear sustained no injuries and was returned to its owner. It was renamed "Lucky," and Butz said she planned to give it to her 4-year-old son, handing it down through the generations. "I'm glad we were close by and could be of assistance to the family," Council said. "This was a happy ending for all."  | |
