I had a wee navelgaze and figured it out pretty quickly a few months ago. I'm not happy with what I've achieved so far in life, I feel it's in inverse proportion of what I'm actually capible of and therefore I'm not my own biggest fan. I don't actually like being liked either, I don't seek love and safety. Although I feel like a superbeing, I also feel like something someone's stood on. You know me. I have issues, man.

Actually, that's the most hopeful thing I've read all day, B. Hey, it's gut-wrenchingly exciting when we realize we're not satisfied. Rip down the fucking canvas and get out those rusting paint cans.

Well, that's what I do. I tear things up and start again. When I paint my masterpiece, it's all over. I hope I never do. I never want to feel satisfied or content. They're swearwords to me. Blasphemy to conciousness.

Direct from the www.cdc.gov/std web site:
Hepatitis B...1 out of 20 have been infected. HBV is spread by having sex with an infected partner or contact with infected blood. No RX available for acute infections. Antivirals can RX chronic Hep B. 15-25% of people with Hep B die prematurely from liver cancer or cirrohsis.

HPV---20 million in the US have genital HPV infections. There are 100 varieties of this virus. 5.5 million people acquire HPV per year. Can lead to cervical and penile cancers.

You know, I agree that protecting yourself and playing safely is an important message. I guess I wonder what your intent is on bringing it up repeatedly here. If you want to talk about it, perhaps it warrants its own thread. When people constantly throw the disease factor around, I wonder if they want to scare people into behaving the same way they do. Or if it's just the 'ick' factor they want to bring up over and over and over.

If you're a sexually active adult, safety is your number one concern. I think that's a given, no matter how many people you're sleeping with. It only takes one.

If you're in a monogamous relationship, you're still at risk from anyone your partner has been with before you. With HPV and even herpes, people can have it for long periods of time without showing any symptoms and not even know they do. Not to mention you're at risk if your partner cheats. If you're able to be open and honest about what you want and need out of a relationship (that being an open one), you're more likely to be honest about safety as well. And more likely to be prepared.

Consider it a public service announcement. The statistics wouldn't be that high if everyone were practicing safe sex and responsible.
In no way did I judge those who are in open relationships. People can live their lives however they chose. (Including, suffer the consequences of poor choices)
The forum topic already mentions STD, so the input is relevant.
My spending the time to post data is because the more informed one is, the more likely he/she is to make good healthy decisions about their body.
And last, but not least...If you're ever on a liver transplant list, I could be one of the caregivers helping you at some point in your medical treatment.
What's that saying..."an ounce of prevention.....worth a pound of cure..

Well, do it now before you're too crinkly and flaccid to attract anyone's attention with your physical appearence. Time's running out fast and there's not enough minutes to be posting hopes and fears to strangers on a Prince website. Get out there and shag every beast with pulse and energy. Or else, stop moaning. smile

I want to. I wanna go whore myself out at this rate.

But I'm married honey, and I won't cheat.

I'd rather just finger myself at this rate.

I'm really really irritated about this at this moment, or TRUST ME, I would not be tellin' you guys.

Fingers are at least safe. There's a guy who arrived in a local ER who "accidentally fell on a cucumber" and had to have it extracted.

This issue hits very close 2 home 4 me as it just ended the greatest relationship I've ever had after nearly 5 years.

The 1 and only place where my partner and I disagreed was he did not believe in monogamy. When we 1st got 2gether he asked if we were going 2 b xclusive. I said "I'd like 2 b. Is that going 2 b a problem?" He said "No". and that was the end of the discussion.

cut 2 5 years later and he tells me "Remember when I said 'No'? I actually meant 'Yes'." He never cheated on me and has repeatedly told me that I am the love of his life and no1 will ever match what he feels 4 me, but he couldn't take all of the missed opportunities 2 have random sex with multiple strangers.

I look at it this way; if yer gonna b in a relationship, b in it. If U don't want 2 b tied down 2 just 1 person, than stick 2 dating. No commitment, no xpectations, no1 gets hurt.

4 my money, U can't have it both ways. This has nothing 2 do with me being insecure, or under-evolved or closed-minded or old-fashioned. I just don't think U can really make a serious commitment 2 some1 and still f**k everything that moves. I had no desire 2 suddenly change from 'Husband' to 'my personal favorite of all the guys I'm currently screwing'.

But that's me. Your results may vary.

Wow...this hits close to home. I find myself wanting love and a relationship, but I know I'll never get married...and I can't stop being an Alfie. So I'm torn.

Disagreed! I dont want my man to be bring home something nasty and give it to me. If he want to have an open relationship then that is fine but the relationship will end with quickness. If other people want to have it that is their business though.

and it's those people who need to really think about this option if it's something they seriously plan on introducing to a relationship. there are also a ton of emotional dynamics to consider. it's not a 'get out of monogamy free' card. it's as much work as anything else in a relationship if you really intend on pursuing it responsibly and with mutual respect. there's a difference between MAINTAINING these options in a relationship and simply declaring sexual anarchy.

And I think by saying it's a 'given' it's just that those of us who have been single all our lives, well, thinking about protection in the context of any situation is first and foremost in our minds. I've been sexually active for 14 years and have never been in a relationship longer than 2 years. Even though I've been utterly monogamous in ALL of my relationships, I've still slept with a number of people over the years. And it doesn't matter HOW many people you sleep with, all it takes is once. 1 person, 1 time to get pregnant or catch something. I don't know see how anyone would be thinking any differently about it in an open relationship than any other.

NAnomaly

I talked to a friend of mine about this topic of open relationships and I'm glad I did because my thinking of what was considered an open relationship was wrong...I was completely off point. In an open relationship, it's just that open there are the principles the couple and the others, the explanation that was given to me was this... say you come home from work unwind have dinner with your sig other, after dinner they say I'm going do whatever... hangout etc., with Sue to which your partner says okay, have fun, see ya' later or Bill and I are going to meet up... nothing is hidden and there aren't any secrets... everybody knows about everybody else. The ideal open relationship would be Sue, Jackie, Paul or Bob would come and go, spend the night, get the sex on while you're downstairs or in the next room at your place, home that you share with your sig other..."open" relationship, I think there's maybe one percent of the population that would be able to actually deal with such a relationship and I know I'm not one of them.
