I just added the Strangers movie DVD to my Netflix queue. A lot of the fan reviews say that the movie is bad and disappointing and the series was much more funny. Anyone agree?

the series was a lot better, though i cackled from beginning to end of the strangers with candy movie. i thought the story to the movie was really stupid, but i was watching it more just to see jerri blank behave like an idiot...and i got what i wanted. if you're looking for good comedic narrative, go rent garp. if you just want to turn your brain off and laugh at people making asses of themselves, this is a fine movie. lol

Some crappy ass pictures from tonight:

(the most jerri-esque picture i got)

i'm SO disappointed in my camera, especially because amy sedaris even POSED for me during the Q and A and all i got was a blonde blur! mad

it's definitely time for a new picture takin' machine.

BUT, i managed to ask her if she was going to turn her book into a tv show or expand on her home decor and entertainment fetish, and she said that she was indeed shopping her book around with the goal of having her own "hospitality show", but she wanted to make a lot of craft projects on her show that were really gross looking but she would act like they were the best items ever.

then she started answering someone else's question and then she turned back to me and said, "oh, wait, i didn't answer the second part of YOUR question," and i was snapping away with my camera so she stopped and said "oh, but you're taking pictures anyway" and then stopped and made a PERFECT monkey face for me, and all i got was a blur! DAMN! lol

she looked very pretty (not that you could tell from my pics!), and she was just ON the entire time, extremely funny and engaging. and yes, people in the audience made her say "pizza! pizza! pizza!", "fandango" and "hobocamp", and she said all three in her best jerri blank voice.

someone asked her what it was like to work with martha stewart on martha's tv show, and amy said "oh, HER." then she stopped and said, "i mean, oh HIM."

then someone else asked her what it was like to share a stage with barack obama at a recent event, and without a beat she said "he's two-faced!" - she was kidding, but everyone roared.

she also said not to get a turtle for a pet because they smell bad and they take forever to die; that she had no idea if her early cable sketch comedy show would ever make it to DVD but she hoped it wouldn't because the sketches went on too long; she said her pet chicken suki from 'strangers with candy' had bugs, and that's why you see her handing it to stephen colbert at the end of the episode; her favorite episode to make was the debate team episode; one person asked a question and amy said "i just see hands and no face - that's what all the boys say to me"; and when someone tripped over her chair while she was signing books, she looked up with a smile and said "DADDY'S HERE!" lol

i've never seen someone so able to get jokes out of ANYTHING and be so continuously funny. i was in awe.

she brought a volunteer on stage with her for the craft project, then started harassing her halfway through, starting by saying to the poor girl, "...so, did you keep the baby?" and ending the ordeal by telling a handler "look, i'm sorry about her...she reeks of fleischmann's."

oh, and she showed us how to fold a land'o'lakes box to make it look like the indian lady's knees were her boobs - but i already knew that trick.

jerri blank was channelled a LOT throughout the night, starting with when the borders person introduced her and said amy would be making crafts - amy, who was sitting next to the podium, made a jerri face and then mimed like she was smoking a joint. lol

GOOD TIMES indeed!

(oh, and i asked her about book signing etiquette - if fans should bring gifts - but i'm saving that for elsewhere whistling )

and that's all i remember right now - she made me laugh so much tonight, i'm sure i'll remember much more tomorrow!

woot! cool!!!

i really don't like meeting celebrities i admire. i always feel stupid and poorly groomed, and other fans get on my nerves because everyone wants to appear like the number one fan. but if i don't go, i regret it the next day. shrug

i'd feel comfy just being myself, but i'd be too busy with wanting to bean all the annie wilkes-ses at the function so that's why i'm kinda apprehensive about meeting people too. lol

i always have this inner conflict of wanting to gush on about how their work changed my life, how what they do makes me feel less alone in the world, blah blah, and on the other hand, wanting them to see that i'm, you know, down and cool and not a starstruck yokel. i never have this problem with celebrities i don't care about. but with people i like, i always feel a bit awkward. true genius scares the shit out of me in the best possible way.
