YES!

you know I don't diet, when things get snug I change up, become a little more active, drink more water etc...
But all in all inspite of what America says about my weight, my body composition, I love me. The only person you have to please is yourself, girl you know that.

I have watched my sister on the yo yo, she'll lose and gain it all back and be bigger, she has done this all of her adult life.

My niece has had lipo, dieted etc.. when I went home 6 years ago I was the largest one there, when I went home last year I was the smallest because I hadn't been dieting so I just maintained.

Everyone asked me how I do it, and I just tell them I don't phuck with my body like that.
I have been in this weight range for 11 years, I still can wear all my clothes from years ago, with a few (and I mean like 4 items) exceptions.

so yeah I am big, yeah I can tone up but I don't do the whole weight loss thang, oh and I am pretty healthy, no diabetes, no hypertension pray or heart disease.

Welcome home Rhonda! hug

There is a reason why the United States is the fattest and unhealthiest nation in the world. We eat crap and we don't exercise. Period.

And then, since we're the US we make excuses (because that's what Americans do) or even WORSE, decide to "embrace being a fat chick".

Good lord.

No one's saying you have to be Paris Hilton, but there's no excuse for being Mo'Nique either. I don't care how proud of her weight she is, she isn't healthy and her weight is going to shorten her lifespan as a result of it.

Here's a phrase for you.

Eat to live. Don't live to eat.

I was a vegetarian for 12 years and i've been vegan for over a year now. I eat all the time and don't feel hungry. Do i miss some foods that i used to eat? Not that many. But being black and having diabetes run rampant on my father's side of the family, i think it's more important that i'm ALIVE.

So it's very simple. Give up all the fast and fat laden foods. It's not that freaking hard. Exercise. A change in diet and a 30 minute brisk walk every other day would make a significant difference. Smaller freaking proportions.

It's not rocket science, people.

Agreed. People always point towards genetics and other factors, but these same factors reside in countries that do not suffer from the same obesity rates. Ultimately, lifestyel counts most.

define "thick". i'd wager that there's something in the diet that's getting eaten that shouldn't be.

i don't want to run down the entire list of crap we shouldn't be eating, because living in the United States it's EXTENSIVE.

and this isn't coming from some guy that's been thin his whole life. i had weight issues when i was young, and right before i went vegetarian i was almost 200 pounds. and being 5'9", that was a problem.

you shouldn't eat fast food, EVER. i don't eat fried food, EVER. i eat sweets like 3 - 4 times a year.

i dunno. i honestly don't think that anyone is genetically "thick". there's something getting eaten that shouldn't be. or the dietary times are out of whack. like not eating all day and having one big meal, that slows down the metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight. and you really should try to not eat after 8pm as a rule in general.

nod

not only that, but the fact is, the older you get the less you are supposed to eat. Thats because your metabolism slows. You can live with out food. All the portions served to us in industrialized nations are two, four, six, eight in a package. People eat all of that at one time and more! Save that food for the hungry then we'll kill off hunger.

If your going to embrace your fatness, just don't turn into a bitch because of it, that just shows your really not comfortable with it and it makes your fatness unattractive and ugly. Thats when you turn into a fat bitch intsead of a fat chic.

Like was said before, don't blame genetics. Unless of course you are one of the rare cases like, rare like being mentally retarded or born without a foot.

I define fat by being 100 lbs. over your ideal range for your height and age. Which means you are morbidly obese.

I hate this topic. So all I'm gonna say is, I'm living proof you can eat healthy and exercise the majority of the time and still remain considerably overweight. My entire family is overweight, my parents, my brother, almost my entire mother's side of her family. shrug
I've finally discovered I don't believe in killing myself or denying myself certain simple pleasures just to fit into some ideal. I am very conscious of what I eat, to the point where I know I am eating more healthy than almost everyone I know on a consistent basis. I occasionally have treats, cause I adore food, but not in excess.
Do I think its possible for me to be thinner? Yes. Do I want to make the changes necessary to get there? No. I've learned its not worth it to me. Take that for what you will.

I hear you both.
I just respectfully disagree.
There were some very key statements that you made that explain it all.

"I've finally discovered I don't believe in killing myself or denying myself certain simple pleasures just to fit into some ideal."

So you've already made up your mind that going without certain foods is "killing yourself" and eating foods that may not be healthy for you are "simple pleasures" that you need.

"Do I want to make the changes necessary to get there? No. I've learned its not worth it to me."

Examine that statement for a minute. Regardless of all the studies that show over and over and over again, that even being slightly overweight dramatically increases your chances of being unhealthy, it's not worth it to you? over FOOD.

i'm not talking about this "Hollywood ideal" crap where they think you have to be as thin as Paris Hilton to be "hot". That's NOT what i'm saying. I'm talking about being healthier as a nation. And this idea that FOOD is somehow more important than being healthy.
