It depends on the situation, the breakup and the people, I have three ex's all from long term relationships and we aren't friends but we aren't enemies either but that's just how things worked out with them.

I'm friends with all of them except for the last one. Why? Because he's a coward and can't face me. I can't wait till the day we bump into each other, he's going to be sooooo uncomfortable!

Most. Because one of the reasons I got involved with them in the first place is that they're great people and we have a lot in common. This is exactly what I was gonna write. I'm friends with pretty much all of them...some close friends, some not as close but all my exes and I are on very good terms.

We were--until his insecure fiancee snatched the phone away from him one time while we were talking and bitched me out. (Even though I lived in halfway across the US.) We haven't spoken since.
In terms of our relationship, I can honestly say I would be absolutely miserable in my life right now if we were still together, so I feel like I really dodged a bullet! But I do wish we were friends.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I've had breakups that made me very angry when it first happened but I was able to get passed it and be friends with them. I cared about them when we were together, and even though shitty stuff may have gone down, I still care about them when it's over and we've moved on. For me, that part of my relationships never seems to die.

SnidelyWhiplash said: now i am confused about the ex-hubby ... SO - when u were with your hubby ... you had an EX boyfriend THAT he pretended to NOT know that you were still friends with this EX ???
do you think secrets such as that .... were good/bad for your relationship with your EX HUSBAND ??? just asking ... cus i have a similar situation with my wife ... altho ... its alil more complicated .... cus the gal pal is NOT someone i dated or slept with ... etc .... one of those "friends" that ... she may think i did ... but ... i did not ... ... and i feel guilty not saying more to my wife about this old friend ... BUT ... i also do not want any jealousy stuff coming into play .. so ... its kinda a sucky situation ... oh no, it's a little more complicated than that. My ex-hubby had no problems with the ex's I had before, specifically one who is now my best friend (but is also gay!) But in general, we accepted one another's ex's and I think we had to. I had to have a relationship with his ex-wife, for example, as my ex-husband had a son with her so, like it or not, she is in my life, albeit on a very superficial level these days as his son is now 26. The guy I'm referring to is someone I was with when my ex and I divorced. I think it was difficult for him to think about his ex-wife with someone else. Now my ex-husband and I are living together again although it's more-or-less a platonic relationship. We're friends. It's possible that at some stage we may find other partners but, for now, financially and emotionally it works for us. Again, it's a case of me wanting to remain friends with an ex I guess. As I said before, I just can't switch off that "love" button in my head. And I know he loves me very much. And, for some strange reason, even though we're not the perfect couple, it's working for us right now. As to your dilemma, my instinct is that you may be thinking about this friend in a sexual way even though you say nothing's happened. Personally, I would keep quiet. I don't believe a partner needs to know everything about your life. The only time I would mention her is if you actually believe your friendship may become more - because I think the worst part about affairs is the deceipt factor, which shows a lack of respect for your partner. Does that help, or have I got it wrong?

i agree with what u said about my situation ... altho ... i would minimalize the "sexual way" thingy ... i think she and I are more just friends like bro and sister at this point ... for sure !

it'd depend on a few factors.

Only one of them, and we had been friends a long time before we dated. Eventually we lost contact, and I called her parents to get her phone number.
They told me she'd gotten married, but they'd pass my number along. I'm pretty sure that never happened. Funny, since she never told them we dated. My Legacy

No...especially after it is fresh. If you let it go, cut it off. Maybe after a few years it may be ok. Not for a few years..one of you still has feelings for each other. You know you saw that Sex and the City episode...didn't you?

If U still have feelings 4 the person: Probably not. Yup. And I think that in most cases, you never really "get over" your ex, which really makes friendship tough. I'll always be a little bit in love with two of exes.

Usually I end up being friends with them- guess it depends on the situation. As I get older I think I realise it might be best to let it go and not be friends.
