Poetry

Do you get it? confuse

I'd love to be a poetry buff but most poetry really doesn't affect me on any kind of emotional level. I love that some people can quote poems as though the words really mean something but all I hear is "blah blah blah", sometimes in a random rhyming way.

And what's with ending sentences in funny places? No, I really don't get it unfortunately.

Most poetry leaves me cold, except for Spike Milligan who was a genius. I'd take him over Sylvia Plath, Tennyson or Wordsworth any day.

What are your thoughts? Do you have any favourites? Do you have to be a romantic to love poetry? What about modern-day stuff, like rap? Does that have a place?

Who's gonna convert me?

Definately, I agree. I just don't like poetry, except of the Spike Milligan kind ... and Pam Ayres occassionally, when I don't have to watch her reciting them.

i'm not to keen on poetry either. their are only a few poets and even with them a few poems stick out,ex: gwendolyn brooks-to be in love, langston hughes-mother to son, sonia sanchez's poem #3. If i took the time to get into it i think that sonia sanchez and nikki giovanni(another person of interest whom i've yet to take the time for)are two poets who'd peak my interest more than others. but ultimately i'm a writer's girl. I enjoy the art of a good essay, story, short story or book any day.

poetry keeps me sane. all this modern day crap like rap pisses me off..I'm sorry wtf is a song of someones ass getting published for? Honestly...Money maker shaker what have you...it really irritates me because there are so many talented people out there and we have to come up with a song like that

Not much. I find most poets way too occupied with themselves and their personal history - and seriously speaking I'm not that terribly enthusiastic about having to dig deeper into the connoted meanings behind their masked traumas and other psychological traits.

"The meadows whispered quietly in sanctity of our love"
"Well, I'm sorry to hear you never got to have sex with your mother. Next please"

Some stuff will really move me, others not so much. Overall, I'd say I'm not really a fan, but once in a while something will jump out at me.

One of the last guys I dated was a poet. He'd send me stuff all the time. redface
When I stopped liking his poetry, I realized it had to end. lol
