Brokeback Mountain question

For those who have seen the movie in its entirety, I have a question.

Okay, near the end of the movie where Innis finds out that Jack had died, and then he calls Jack's wife to find out how Jack died...well remember the description she gave (him dying from the rim of a tire that hit him in the face) that clearly wasn't how Jack had died (was beat up by 3 men)...well my question is this:

Why did she give such a description to Innis if that really wasn't how Jack got killed?

Did she actually arrange the beating that killed Jack?

Didn't the way she was telling Innis how Jack died sound like a script she memorized when asked how Jack got killed?

She knew Jack was gay at some point in time right?

Did his beating have to do with his affair with the neighbor's husband?

Or was this just a random hate crime beating?

If anyone could shed some light on this for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. biggrin
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I took it as him being killed from a hate crime and that she didn't want Ennis to know what really happened because she was trying to keep his homosexuality a secret.

I always thought that she never found out about their affair.

Excellent Question,
I have wondered what that Extermely fast clip was,, but it's clear Jack was murdered. It was not his wife,,it's pretty clear in that point of the movie that he went back to live with his parents,, and hoped that Ennis would ( after the divorce) come live there and help shape up the farm. Im not 100% sure,, But,, it seems 2 me that it was some people that lived in his hometown that murdered him.

oh my god.

I must have totally missed that part.
I didn't pay any attention to what his folks where saying to him.

I didn't realize that he had left his wife and was keeping that from Enis.

Can somebody break it down for me?

And,, The End of The Movie,, when Ennis was at the table of Jacks Parents,, was the most pivitol point of the Movie,, it showed that Jack Loved Ennis more than anything,, and even told his parents about a guy he wanted 2 build a house with on their land.

So what his wife told Enis wasn't correct about how he died?

It was his Parents that made up the tire story. His Wife thought it was true also,, Jack was living with his Parents when it happened,, his wife had no idea what really happened.

he got beat dead.

The other day I had dinner with a longtime female childhood friend of the late hate crime victim Matthew Shepherd. she told me about what he was really like (conservative Republican!), how he was allowed to her sleepovers, how the funeral seemed like a travesty of people that didn't even know him, and how overhearing vulture like, self serving reporters at a restaurant infuriated her and her friends so much, they got up and left.

nod

Yep, a truly over-rated, boring piece of dirge. And Heath Ledger mumbles incoherently throughout the entire movie.

She was lying to Ennis. He could tell by tone in her voice, as she gave him that excuse about the tire blowing up. He put two and two together, and assumed that Jack was actually beaten to death. That Jack getting struck in the face with a tire iron wasn't an accident, it was done on purpose.

I think one of the people that they showed beating Jack was her father. If not, it was probably some people close to her, so she wasn't going to incriminate them, so she just lied.
