I did something stupid to my back left molar..

It got cracked somehow yesterday in the late evening on a hambone (stupid I know) and now this gelatinous goo that stinks to high heaven is oozing out. When I eat it doesn't hurt until a peice of food slides over that way. once that happens I get a searing burning sensation on my gum. I scheduled a dentist appointment for Monday, but in the meantime I wonder if any of you have any oldwives tales to keep the pain down and keep it from abcessing! Help me please!

It sounds like it may already be infected, hon...you should call an emergency dentist asap.

I would try GNC or some health food/vitamin store.

Pharmacies have it. But, call an emergency dentist, ok?

But does that cost more? I mean I don't know if I'll have some hidden costs that my Delta Dental will cover. Plus who the hell is gonna drive me there? IF they gotta do some emergency root canal and I get gassed and drugged I won't be in driving shape. All my buddies and relatives are out of town for holiday.

Dude...just call them...they may just have to give you an antibiotic Rx...if you're infected they can't do any surgery on you until it clears up.

If you have dental insurance they should cover at least some portion of the cost of the emergency dentist. I agree it sounds infected. Ouch!!! Gosh, I don't know any wives tales, but I hope it feels better soon! Get it taken care of ASAP.

Sorry, but the ham bone part is a little funny. lol

Once I had an infected tooth that was absessing and I was on a 24 hour train traveling from Colorado to California. shake I was moving there with $400 in my pocket, never been there before. What a nightmare! If your tooth is really absessing, they just need to drill a little hole to let out the fluid so that it stops hurting. You can get the root canal later.

Anyway, I've used the clove oil trick too. It sort of numbs the gum area.

By the way, I had a dream last night that I grew a new molar in the center of the bottom of my mouth and had to pull it out with my fingers. eek

Warm water & salt mouth washes...Naw on a clove of fresh garlic for as long as you can stand the hotness...(take it out if you must, of course, but have more at the ready)...400 mg (2 tablets) of Ibuprofen - Motrin. Sleep/lay/lean on the side of your discomfort.

Let your dentist see you asap. rose

I have a whole repertoire of tooth dreams. They're constant.
