I'm meeting Jerri Blank tonight! (UPDATED with BAD PICS!) Amy Sedaris is signing her new happy housekeeping book "I LIKE YOU" at a local Borders bookstore tonight, and you better believe I'll be braving the warm, wintery November rain to meet my favorite cheeseball makin' musket-packer. Aside from requisite copy of "I Like You" I hope to have her sign my copy of "The Book of Liz", which her brother has already signed. And if that doesn't make her ask security to escort me out, I might ask for a picture with her. Anyone have any messages they'd like me to forward to her? I will make sure I don't give them to her as soon as I possibly can't. [Edited 11/29/06 19:42pm]

and what gift shall u deliver to her feet? i've decided i bought her damn book and she should be happy about it. though she says in her book that she likes getting lightbulbs and butter as gifts. i'm afraid those might be impractical for a book signing.

I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SAY!!!!
Okay, actually, I don't - not just yet. I just got in from seeing Amy read at Borders, and she was highLARious - like cancer! - and utterly quotable. She started off the appearance by making 'eye burritos' out of panty hose and dried beans, then she did a really long and indulgent Q&A then got behind a table and started doling out the autographs. I'm glad I got there early, because the place was PACKED. Anywhosil, I have to get some pics ready to share and I'll write more. But I will leave you with these words of wisdom from Ms. Sedaris herself: "I know some old people who aren't dead. And animals like snacks." (the second part of that statement, she said, was a direct quote from a Michael Jackson interview )

Some crappy ass pictures from tonight:
(the most jerri-esque picture i got) i'm SO disappointed in my camera, especially because amy sedaris even POSED for me during the Q and A and all i got was a blonde blur! it's definitely time for a new picture takin' machine. BUT, i managed to ask her if she was going to turn her book into a tv show or expand on her home decor and entertainment fetish, and she said that she was indeed shopping her book around with the goal of having her own "hospitality show", but she wanted to make a lot of craft projects on her show that were really gross looking but she would act like they were the best items ever. then she started answering someone else's question and then she turned back to me and said, "oh, wait, i didn't answer the second part of YOUR question," and i was snapping away with my camera so she stopped and said "oh, but you're taking pictures anyway" and then stopped and made a PERFECT monkey face for me, and all i got was a blur! DAMN! she looked very pretty (not that you could tell from my pics!), and she was just ON the entire time, extremely funny and engaging. and yes, people in the audience made her say "pizza! pizza! pizza!", "fandango" and "hobocamp", and she said all three in her best jerri blank voice. someone asked her what it was like to work with martha stewart on martha's tv show, and amy said "oh, HER." then she stopped and said, "i mean, oh HIM." then someone else asked her what it was like to share a stage with barack obama at a recent event, and without a beat she said "he's two-faced!" - she was kidding, but everyone roared. she also said not to get a turtle for a pet because they smell bad and they take forever to die; that she had no idea if her early cable sketch comedy show would ever make it to DVD but she hoped it wouldn't because the sketches went on too long; she said her pet chicken suki from 'strangers with candy' had bugs, and that's why you see her handing it to stephen colbert at the end of the episode; her favorite episode to make was the debate team episode; one person asked a question and amy said "i just see hands and no face - that's what all the boys say to me"; and when someone tripped over her chair while she was signing books, she looked up with a smile and said "DADDY'S HERE!" i've never seen someone so able to get jokes out of ANYTHING and be so continuously funny. i was in awe. she brought a volunteer on stage with her for the craft project, then started harassing her halfway through, starting by saying to the poor girl, "...so, did you keep the baby?" and ending the ordeal by telling a handler "look, i'm sorry about her...she reeks of fleischmann's." oh, and she showed us how to fold a land'o'lakes box to make it look like the indian lady's knees were her boobs - but i already knew that trick. jerri blank was channelled a LOT throughout the night, starting with when the borders person introduced her and said amy would be making crafts - amy, who was sitting next to the podium, made a jerri face and then mimed like she was smoking a joint. GOOD TIMES indeed! (oh, and i asked her about book signing etiquette - if fans should bring gifts - but i'm saving that for elsewhere ) and that's all i remember right now - she made me laugh so much tonight, i'm sure i'll remember much more tomorrow!
