How long can you focus?

It's a curious question - personally I have a really difficult time focusing on one conversation or activity for longer than like a half hour. I have to consistently move between different things if I want to remain in a normal state of mind instead of feeling like the walking (or sitting) dead. That's the other thing, I have to move around a lot.

So that's my question - how long can you focus? And how? lol

It really all depends on the topic/subject/activity at hand! If I really am into something (basketball, coaching, running, teaching, poker) I can do it for hours on end. IF its something I hat (mowing the lawn, cleaning dog poo, listening to chamber music) then my attention span is that of a gnat!

Well, music - listening to and making, etc. - is the one exception. I can focus on music for long periods of time. But only at night. lol confuse

For about six to seven minutes. I lack all basic skills needed for properly focusing on something. At the moment, I'm browsing three different pages. And thinking about my personal life and music while reading quite demanding philosophical texts. smile

it's more of a task for me to prepare to focus on something than it is for me to actually focus on it. i can write for hours but it takes me forever to sit my ass down in a chair and focus on my writing. likewise, i can go into a whole other world working on compilation CDs for friends and spend all day working on it, but it takes days for me to force myself to focus on it.

of course, put a dman PS2 joystick in my hand and i'll focus all weekend if you let me. lol

Whenever I draw, paint, play my keyboard, work with ceramics (basicially anything artistic) I can focus for a few hours. Time flies when you're doing things like that.

I have to force myself to study and usually I always wait until the last minute to study for tests,so I end up having to study for hours as opposed to a few minutes a day.
